Louisiana to require safety inspection for all vehicles

Col Murphy Ro dé director of the Department of Public Safety says Louisiana will need about one million motor vehicles safety inspected in January 1961. About 3,000 licensed inspection stations will be required as the motor vehicle inspection law, passed by the recent Louisiana Legislature, sets the statewide program. Automobile repair garages meeting DPS requirements will be licensed to inspect and may charge up to one dollar. Station space varies by headlight testing equipment. 12 by 25 feet for a headlight tester and 12 by 45 feet for a testing screen. Minimums include wash racks and restrictions on screen height and distance from the floor. An approved appraiser is needed and brake testers are optional. Applications go to the Motor Vehicle Inspection Section, Department of Public Safety, Baton Rouge, with a ten dollar license fee, posting bond, and passing inspection to qualify.
