Plow Bed Prep Efficient Before Planting Says ISU Expert

Iowa State College extension agronomist C. H. Dan Vinck says one tillage in a tandem disc and spike-tooth drill before planting suffices for corn or soybeans. Extra tillage does not improve weed control, stand, or yield, while early postplant cultivation with spike-tooth harrow or rotary hoe kills small weeds and breaks light crusts, with low labor and power.
