In Des Moines last Thursday Gov. John W. Bricker, Republican presidential hopeful, urged abolition of the AAA after the war and restoration of freedom to farmers. He argued for full production with market protections and warned that without new markets and tariff reductions surplus crops could bankrupt farmers unless the government buys excess commodities. He viewed the Agriculture Department as a service agency and contrasted his plans with Willkie’s, asserting-wide changes needed to ensure farm prosperity after peace.
