OPA Convicts Gas Chiselers In Rationing Crackdown
Since January 1, 945 peddlers and distributors of counterfeit gasoline unions have been arrested under OPA. Of those arrested 464 have been convicted 186 jailed and 28 sentenced to more than a year. Others await trial. About 611 motorists who bought gas with stolen or counterfeit coupons or without coupons lost their rations by local price and rationing boards.

Hogs Over 240 Pounds Face Lower Price Under OPA Order
Hogs above 240 pounds live weight will drop 75 cents per hundredweight starting May 15 1944 to a Chicago ceiling of 14.00 per cwt though hogs under 240 pounds stay at current prices. Retail pork unaffected. The move, urged by War Food Admin WPB and OES, aims to curb corn use and balance feed supply amid wartime shortages.

The Pocahontas county young farm couples group held its last regular meeting of the season at Hotel Pocahontas on Wednesday evening April 26. Plans were discussed for a summer picnic. Swan Recovering From Emergency Appendectomy
Robert Swan, Arrow linotype operator, was rushed to Lutheran Hospital Fort Dodge for an emergency appendectomy early Wednesday. The operation succeeded and he is recovering well per Dr. G A Everson. Mrs Swan accompanied him and stayed at the hospital. she returned to Rolfe on the midnight train. All hands at the Arrow fell to duties with the editor's wife running the linotype for the day.

Rolfe Entries Earn Places In State Music Contest
Rolfe sent eight entries to the state music contest in Carroll on April 28 and 29. Five earned ratings with Myon Peterson taking No 1 in a field of 35 contralto soloists. No 2 ratings went to Joan Bixler, a 62-soprano entry, a boys quartet of 28, a girls trio of 37, and a girls sextette of 51.

DeWolf Receives Good Conduct Medal for WWII Service
