Iowa to participate in Medicare Part B for Old Age Assistance recipients
The State Board of Social Welfare unanimously approved a plan to buy into Medicare Part B for Old Age Assistance recipients effective July 1, 1966. Arthur Downing said the state department will pay the $3.00 monthly premium, covering physician services home health visits lab and x ray services prosthetic devices (except dental) and certain ambulances and equipment rental. About 42 percent of elderly Iowa recipients also receive Social Security and will be urged to enroll in the voluntary program.
