Residents celebrate as Dr L K Yates M D, currently of Hawarden, chooses Rock Valley as his new home and practice. A town dinner on Wednesday February 9 offers locals a chance to meet the physician and his wife, who have six children. Proceeds from ticket sales go to the Hegg Memorial Hospital.
A benefit sale sponsored by the Rock Valley Commercial Club is set for Friday February 4 at the Rock Valley Sales Co to aid the Hegy Memorial hospital fund. An invitational wrestling tournament will feature teams from Holstein George Marcus and local schools with finals at 2 30 and 7 00 and a total of 48 matches. Committee members report pledges near 200 000 dollars and ongoing plans to build the hospital this year with funds to be freed from restrictions when possible.

Hesse Rootha was admitted to the Sion Center hospital on January 10. Ber Mulder returned home from Sioux Valley hospital in Sioux Falls after tests and was discharged with a favorable report.
The Just-A-Mere- club reports $2961 raised for the Hegg Memorial hospital building fund. Donations include $300 from Dr Robert Vatde and others in Sioux Falls, $750 from Mr and Mrs Isaac Boon of Rock Rapids, honoring a son who died in a car accident. Many former Red Valley residents are hoped to contribute memorial gifts.
Vital statistics show births dropping from 506 in 1964 to 458 in 1965 a decline of 48 not 68. Deaths fell from 216 in 1964 to 190 in 1965 a decrease of 26. Marriages rose slightly from 165 to 158. Probate cases opened total 164 civil suits 105 and criminal 96 with 36 criminal cases including driving while intoxicated and overloading a vehicle.
Native Scotsman Mr McKenzie and his wife and son met Dan McKenzie. two natives of Scotland moved from Canada to Sioux City last September and will move to the local golf club home in March. Mr McKenzie, an ardent Howler, will oversee greens and offer a limited number of golf lessons at Rock Valley Golf Course. Club members can meet the McKenzies at the annual meeting on Monday February 21, with dinner, officer elections, reports, and the proposed budget.
The Rock Valley Rockets defeated George 61 to 43 on Tuesday Jan 18 to move to 5 wins 2 losses in Siouxland Conference play. Ro Kaufman Wilmer Var Beek and Dong Kantinga led with 22 18 and 12 points. Norman Kruse 17 and Dave Krull 13 led George. Rock Valley led 14-12 after one, 25-23 at half, and pulled away late.
Funeral services for Gerard Knorr 53 who died in Denver after heart surgery will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Congregational church in Sioux Falls. Born July 8 1913 in Rock Valley he married Virginia Schmidt November 15 1988 in Sioux Falls. He was a painter decorator and building maintenance contractor and owned Mid-Continental Waterproofing Company in Sioux Falls.
School board members and superintendents from O’Brien Osceola Lyon and Sioux Counties gathered in Sioux Center for a dinner meeting discussing the four-county vocational school proposed at Sheldox. The session focused on planning and cooperative arrangements for the facility and program development.
