Members of the American Legion and Auxiliary are urged to attend a Hull meeting on Monday May 17 at 8 00 pm in the community building. Guest speaker will be Emilioez a Cuban who teaches in the Hull Boyden school system.
Miss Janice Wolfswinle, a Northwestern College student, will start a student teaching assignment at the Jane 24 through March 18. She will teach third grade under the supervision of Mrs Dorothy Wynia. Those attending a meeting are asked to use the bank side door.

The community celebrates the first baby of the year with a Rock Valley couple Gene and Mrs Driesen receiving numerous gifts. Their son Bradley, born at Sioux Center hospital, weighs pounds and ounces. Also announced is a baby daughter born to Cornelius and Mrs Boon of Rock Valley with gifts from local sponsors.
Mr Mrs Gene Driesen and Mr Mrs John Vande Vegte announce the birth of a daughter and a daughter in Sioux Center. The first child born January 1 at 1 10 am at Sioux Center hospital weighing 7 pounds 11 ounces. The second child born January 4 at 4 00 pm weighing 7 pounds 11 ounces.
Registration for adult education courses begins January 18 but is running slow due to the holiday season. Courses include Beginning knitting, Advanced knitting, Sewing, Beginning typing, Welding, and General shop. Each class requires at least ten registrants and a $6 fee covering a 10 week period. books and supplies cost extra.
The American Legion Auxiliary will meet at the VFW hall Tuesday, January at 3 00 pm.
Funeral service for Harold J. Long age 67 was held Wednesday at Pioneer Methodist Church officiated by Rev Mervin Nelson. Porter Funeral Home directed with interment at Valley View Cemetery. Long died suddenly while visiting relatives in San Diego. He was born October 9 1898 in Sea Bern to Ace and Ira Long and served in World War I. He ran a dairy in Rock Valleys and married Marcella Anderson in 1925 in Hudson SD. Long was postmaster in Rock Valley from 1986 until retirement last summer and was active in the Methodist church and American Legion. He is survived by his wife four daughters one brother two sisters seven grandchildren.
Staff and students donated about 125 pounds of new clothing for Cuban refugees replacing usual teacher student gift exchange. Bob's Shoe Store contributed 17 new pairs of shoes, enhancing a Christmas focused on giving and shared Christmastide meaning.

The Society of Hope Haven School for Handicapped Children in Rock Valley will hold a special meeting on Wednesday January 12 at 8 00 p m at the Calvin Christian Reformed Church. The board proposes acquiring land for a future building program and seeks society member approval to start a building fund drive. Hope Haven serves exceptional children across three states and is in its second year with 11 students last May and 27 now.
Mrs Clarence Larew fractured her thigh in a fall at the home of her son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Don Klein. She was taken to Sioux Valley hospital Sioux Falls for surgery on Monday and later suffered a stroke causing facial and arm paralysis. Her condition is reported as fair.
