Funeral services for Roy Bomgaats were held at 1 30 P M Wednesday at the First Reformed Church with Stey Henry B Poppen officiating. Burial followed at Valley View Cemetery under Porter Funeral Home direction. Bomgaats born August 8 1909 at Hospers Iowa married Kathryn Van Dyke December 12 1945 at Rock Valley. Survivors include his widow a stepson a brother and two sisters.
Mrs Henry Penges attends a meeting in New York City for the Board of Managers of women's work of the Reformed Church. She will return after attending the event and leaving Monday for the city.
The Roth Valley Saddle Club will meet Friday January 14 at 7 45 p m at the town hall for a club gathering and discussion of upcoming events.
In Siouxland Conference play the Rockets moved to second place after a week of results. George’s Blues lost in overtime to Orange City, Gordon Kokenge’s team, 45-43. Jan 7 saw the Dutchmen beat Boyden Hull 72-45. Rock Valley, idle since the break, fell to Fronx Center 60-50, while Akron Red Raiders defeated West Lyon 65-50 amid strong holiday form.
Airman Second Class and Mrs Richard De Young of Mount Clemens Michigan lost their home clothing furnishings and wedding presents in a Wednesday evening fire. Mrs De Young was preparing supper when the fire started in the kitchen of their duplex. The cause is undetermined. They saved only a few items and are living with friends in New Baltimore Michigan. Mrs De Young formerly Aurelia Suter.
Mrs Marcella Long requests additional copies of the January 6 issue to obtain her husband H J Long obituary details. She wishes contact options and notes a local reference in the paper. Also reports a 51 33 score where George led West Lyon, and notes upcoming games with Gilmore Boydten Hull versus Sioux Center and Friday conference pairings Boyder Flull Atston and Maurice Orange City at Rock Valley.
Red Rock Steak House on the south edge of Rock Valley recently opened to the public. The building contains a drive inn and a restaurant and dining area with seating for nearly 100.
United Appeal committee met Monday to organize the third annual drive to run February 7 to 12 across Rock Valley Garfield Settlers and Rock townships with possible addition of a fourth township. Sponsored by Just-A-Mere Club, the campaign will feature pamphlets for each organization and Bello’s distribution at homes. Seal set at 84090. Also notes Kooima Machine Works held annual employer employee dinner January 7 with talks by Charles Kooima and Neal Venk, film African Lion shown, and First Reformed church Men’s Brotherhood to meet January 12.
Mr and Mrs Joel Krag Sioux Rapids welcome a grandson born Saturday at Spencer hospital. Mr and Mrs Orville Kooi Stra Rock Valley announce daughter Lynn Rae born January 6 at Sioux Center hospital. Rock Valley post office window hours updated from 8:50 am to 12 noon effective Saturday January 15 per postmaster Paul Beamer.
