Thornton Township district plans cooperative special ed program
At an adjourned meeting on July 12 1960 the Board of Education District No 148 unanimously approved pooling resources with Thornton Township elementary and high school districts to educate handicapped children. District No 48 already offers speech correction training and has a class for the mentally handicapped. Initial needs include hiring a qualified psychiatrist as required by state law. Thornton Township High School favors joining the cooperative. expenses would be shared per capita and salaries may be reimbursed by the state up to 3000 dollars. A follow up meeting for area superintendents is set for August 4 1960.

Ikes Raise Over 4000 for Krone Benefit Shrimp Boil

Irving Hutchinson aged 26 of 14838 Kenwood was found dead in his brother in law's Dolton garage at 44498 Minerva on July 11 after being reported missing. A coroner's jury ruled the death accidental due to carbon monoxide poisoning.

A 6 year old Riverdale boy Gary Ufer vanished Friday night after leaving his uncle's home. Police, firemen, and volunteers from Riverdale Dalton South Holland and nearby suburbs conducted a 15 hour block by block hunt. The boy was found alive in a garage with his family relieved by the rescue.
