Thornton High School Gets Modern Face Lift
Thornton High School and junior college undergo a major remodeling with electricians, plumbers, and carpenters upgrading wiring, fire alarms, and lighting. The project centralizes departments, replaces the student council office with a Nurses’ office, enlarges homemaking, renovates Little Theatre, and adds an expanded library, with renovations continuing for the 1960-61 school year. The second semester will resume July 18 with summer registrations ending July 14.

Local Girls at Camp Manistee Continues Activities
Local Girls at Camp Manistee report learning about other countries from German and Lithuanian staff. They practice firebuilding axemanship and outdoor cooking while newer Girl Scouts earn proficiency badges and seasoned campers prep for a two night camp out. Senior high girls join counselor in training studying camp counseling methods. Special programs include rope hikes, floating games, skits and campfire stunts. Unit representatives plan activities for all campers. The first session features a Fourth of July program with flag ceremonies planned.
