Drafting for War Jobs and Public Service In Wartime

It urges business to limit civilian service, accept fewer staff, and public patience, noting shortages over nonessential goods and stressing resilience for military sacrifice.

After War Prosperity and Postwar Economic Outlook
The piece discusses fears of postwar recession as war production ends. It predicts a large shift to consumer goods like automobiles, prompting strong demand for cars, repairs, and travel services. It notes a 1920s-style boom followed by price shocks and urges conservative behavior to prevent collapse.
Economic Prospects Through War and Debt
The text argues that war drives up prices and production costs, risking disaster. After the war, millions with high earnings who bought defense bonds will have money to spend. If that money circulates, business stays strong, though taxes will rise to service the debt. A larger national income may ease tax burdens compared to earlier hard times.
War Restrictions on Phone Service Explained
F D Tarr of Illinois Bell says war production rules curtail residence extension phones and dial conversions while keeping most service adequate. The measure saves thousands of tons of lead iron steel zinc rubber and other scarce materials for military use and remains manageable for users nationwide.
