Robbery suspect charged in Wells Fargo bank heist
Marcelino Chalan Jr., 27, of Cochiti Pueblo, was arrested after FBI agents charged him in a July 20 robbery at the Wells Fargo inside the Albertsons on Southern Boulevard in Rio Rancho. He appeared in U.S. District Court in Albuquerque. if convicted, he faces up to 20 years. The FBI and local police investigated following a tip.

Responders honored first-responder appreciation day event

A 7:30 a.m. hot air balloon launch honors slain officer Gregg Nigel Benner. Activities run 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with vehicle displays, raffles for the Jen-82 Foundation and opportunities to meet fire and police personnel. Local firefighter and police wives organized the event.
