Montessori program eyed for Rio Rancho Middle School expansion
Sandia Vista principal Cathy Gaarden told the school board that parents want Montessori expanded to sixth and seventh grades. The district already runs Montessori in K-5 with preschool tuition of 600 monthly for non-state funded students. Only Rio Rancho Middle School might have space. the plan is exploratory with no funding decisions.

NDSS uses Tianna dance as World Down Syndrome Month kickoff
A Tianna chosen from 2000 NDSS photo entries stars in a Times Square video promoting Down syndrome awareness. The NDSS showcase, part of October events, precedes the 21st Annual Buddy Walk with 275 plus city events and 300000 participants worldwide. NDSS aims for inclusion and opportunity for about 400000 Americans with Down syndrome.

Animals at the Rio Rancho Animal Control shelter are available for adoption. Call 891-5075 or visit 344 Northern Blvd. Kennel hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Office hours vary by day. See riorancho.petfinder.com or the City page for more pets. Dog adoption events run 9 a.m. to noon on the second and fourth Saturdays at High Resort dog park, 3501 High Resort Blvd.
