Officer Benner shot during pursuit ends in arrest of Romero

Geier said a vehicle fled after a pursuit following a stop on Pinetree where Benner was shot. Romero was arrested Tuesday morning in a car with two others. a female driver at the scene is a witness with a foot injury. Investigators from multiple agencies, including APD, RRPD, and FBI, are involved. Romero has a 2006 manslaughter record. Benner was to be laid off after this shift. his memorial-like tribute described his energy and motivation. Bond for Romero is expected at 5 million dollars.

Three franchise openings brighten Rio Rancho week

Antonio Sanchez reports three franchise businesses opened in Rio Rancho over the past week. Chili’s opened May 18 near Enchanted Hills in Bernalillo, hiring over 70 employees. A new 7-Eleven on Unser near Westside Boulevard celebrated with a $32,000 New Mexico Special Olympics donation and more incentives. Mac’s Steak in the Rough expanded to Latitudes on NM-528 across from Intel, hiring 45 employees as it replaces closed stores.

Lawsuit details Charter Eagle Ridge staff issues and union actions

Passell and Cleveland instructed the Eagle Ridge principal to solicit student statements about a parent's complaint. Christopherson faced an unsatisfactory performance notice and a growth plan in 2010, with further remonstrations in 2011 for demeaning language. She joined the Rao Rancho School Employees Union in 2008, spoke at board meetings, filed a union complaint in 2009, and seeks reinstatement with back pay and damages in the suit.

Rio Rancho man pleads guilty to federal gun charge

Rio Rancho resident Richard A. Archuleta pled guilty May 20 to being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. Under the plea, prosecutors will seek a sentence not more than eight years. Archuleta allegedly possessed guns on June 3, 2013, and Aug. 7, 2014 in Bernalillo County while banned for aggravated battery kidnapping false imprisonment and sex offender registration failures. He remains in federal custody awaiting sentencing.
