Sandoval Chamber Merger Joins With Rio Rancho Chamber

The Rio Rancho Regional Chamber of Commerce will acquire the Greater Sandoval County Chamber of Commerce effective Monday. GSCCC members in good standing as of June 1 become Rio Rancho members. Monica Madrid and Debbi Moore announced the partnership and praised the move for regional business growth.

Clare's Closet to open at St Francis Church Rio Rancho

St Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Rio Rancho opens Clare's Closet on June 15 offering infants and children's clothing and shoes, baby equipment, diapers and school supplies at below thrift store prices. Girlfriend of alleged shooter charged as accessory in slaying

Tabitha Littles, 30, of Albuquerque, faces a first degree murder accessory charge in the fatal shooting of Rio Rancho Police Officer Gregg Benner. The district attorney seeks the maximum penalty for the shooter as Littles is held on a $1 million bond with a foot wound delaying jail.

Rio Rancho Council Approves Budget After Heated Debate

Rio Rancho governing body passes the proposed budget for the coming fiscal year by a 4-2 vote amid sharp exchanges. Councilors Chuck Wilkins and Mark Scott opposed, criticizing the plan as misleading and sloppy while staff defended the figures and criticized the timing of challenges. The vote comes as the state requires an approved budget by June 1. Scott warned road repairs may see insufficient funding.

Rio Rancho board approves new district office roles

The Rio Rancho Public Schools Board passed a 121.98 million dollar balanced budget for next year with several new district office positions. The finance manager becomes controller at a 10,000 pay bump, a procurement manager adds 55 to 65 thousand, webmaster becomes executive director of information services with no salary raise, an information services administrator at about 75 thousand, and a new district office secretary at about 25 thousand. Board member Ramon Montafio questioned lacking dollar amounts and job details before final approval, which was 5 to 0. The budget takes effect July 1.

Settlement reached in Mariposa class action for 5 million

Eligible Mariposa homeowners and families settled their class action against former developer High Desert Investment Corp and Albuquerque Academy for 5 million. Judge James L. Sanchez approved the deal after a Valencia County hearing, covering 225 to 235 owners who bought property on or before June 20, 2012. An owner objected at the hearing.
