Auditions for The Bat held at Adobe Theatre this weekend

Bovee auditions for The Bat by Mary Roberts Rinehart will be held Saturday and Sunday from 1 p m at the Adobe Theatre. Director Hogan Houston seeks three women ages 20 to 65 and seven men ages 20 to 45 for casting. Also notes pool hours and local community events including Animal Anti Cruelty Forum meeting tonight and the Meadowlark Singers luncheon.

City eyes concrete street upgrades to improve traffic flow

City Development Director Mike Springfield says planners will shift from abstract maps to immediate street projects. Top priorities include signaling on NM 528 at Leon Grande and Sabana Grande, coordinating with Southern Boulevard signals, and preventing early traffic movement toward Eastlake Drive.

Referendum on Rio Rancho School District Registration Opens

Voters have three weeks to register for an advisory referendum on creating a new Rio Rancho Municipal School District. The question asks if a district to encompass Rio Rancho Estates should be created. Registration closes June 16 at 5 p.m. voting runs July 28 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Absentee ballots available 30 days before the election and due July 28 by 7 p.m.

Unit 16 Protesters Rally Over Special Assessment District 3 Costs

Unit 16 property owners plan a June 17 meeting at city hall to protest SAD 3 charges for street and drainage work. About 60 attendees heard Boniello urge city drainage funding from infrastructure funds and oppose D'Arco bond plans. a protest sheet itemized 10 cost elements totaling 486,590.

The 20th Street Walker Brightens Rio Rancho Mornings

Thomas Flynn walks the 20th Street route in Rio Rancho each day at about 7 AM waving and smiling at passersby. He says acts of kindness ease tensions and that neighbors in New Mexico are friendly, with children especially enjoying the greeting. Flynn retired as a foreman from New Jersey and moved to Rio Rancho with his wife Julia in January 1978.
