MRGCD to Spend 300000 on Bernalillo Corrales Flood Projects

The Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District will invest 300000 in Sandoval County to rebuild the Bernalillo levee and study improvements with the U S Army Corps of Engineers. Projects include the Bernalillo east levee and the Corrales siphon repair with riverbed rehabilitation to reduce flood risk and protect about 500 residents.

Provisions for March ballot changes include mayor voting rights limited to ties, councilor absences, and a code of conduct review every two years. Salary ties to department head pay raise to 70 percent for mayor and 25 percent for councilors, starting after 2016. Petitions require 15 percent of registered voters. elections on charter amendments must occur by next regular election. The mayor would lead city marketing, work with the manager on budgets, and the municipal judge would present budget requests. A Rio Rancho grandmother wired 10 000 to scammers posing as her grandson in urgent trouble abroad. Wells Fargo issued the loan after a bank wire, but the money vanished. The police filed an inactive case, and authorities urge reporting scams to law enforcement and verifying with relatives before sending funds.

Obituary for Angelo Perno, longtime New Mexico barber

Angelo Pop Pop Perno died June 25 2015 in Albuquerque New Mexico. He was born October 14 1928 in Tufino Italy and immigrated with his family as a baby. He served in the U S Army during the Korean Conflict and later lived in Queens New York before moving to Rio Rancho New Mexico in 1974. He practiced barbering and worked at GTE Lenhart and GE Aircraft before retiring and then part time at Hometown Buffet. He was preceded in death by his wife Christina in 1997 and survived by children Donna Larry Tony Anna Chrissy Lisa Elena nine grandchildren and one great grandson plus sisters Josie and Ann. Memorials may go to Hospice Compassus or the Alzheimer’s Association. Private services were held with interment at Vista Verde Memorial Park in Rio Rancho.
