Douglas Schumann Branch named for long-time supporters

The Rio Rancho Boys and Girls Club on Sandt Road was renamed the Douglas and Marie Schumann Branch after 28 years of service. Mayor Hull and Kiwanis, plus BGCCNM leaders, praised the Schumanns for founding and sustaining club support. The branch serves about 90 to 120 kids daily as Schumann, 90, remains active in the community.

Speech and Debate at Cleveland High Lights Team Spirit

CHS English teacher and coach Abigail Pestalozzi-Conley leads the speech and debate team in a talent show at the CHS Concert Hall from 6 to 8 pm. The event features new lyrics, current topic debates, and personal stories, with tickets selling fast as students display dedication and humor. The statewide competition is Feb 26-28 at Los Alamos High School, part of seven to ten events yearly under NMAA.

District spelling bee crowns Toby Kirkpatrick winner

Mid level contestants faced six rounds of vocabulary and spelling with points earned per correct word. Toby Kirkpatrick from St Thomas Aquinas won the district spelling bee, with Sean Nguyen and Tess Kirkpatrick as top finishers and both set to represent ARPS at the New Mexico Spelling Bee in Albuquerque on March 2.
