Power line relocation aids Sandoval County landfill plan

The Sandoval County landfill near Iris and Idalia roads relocated power lines to the southeast edge to allow new cells. Work began six weeks ago and wraps up early next month with no disruption to Rio Rancho or west Albuquerque power. The $2 million plus county cost extends landfill life by about eight years, keeping the site open until at least 2029 and paving the way for a new facility on a 640 acre tract outside Rio Rancho, acquired from the state in 2013.
