Community Firefighters Cheerful Fundraiser for St Baldricks

Local firefighters invite the community to support children with cancer at the New Mexico Firefighters Event for St Baldrick's at Santa Ana Star Center from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Rio Rancho Fire Rescue hosts the fundraiser with head shaving, music, food and activities to benefit St Baldrick's Foundation. Volunteers can donate at stbaldricks.org teams RioRancho.

City to add bridge and fix water lines in Rio Rancho

Rio Rancho Governing Body approved contracts for Westside Boulevard expansion and replacement of leaky water service lines. The project adds a second bridge over Black Arroyo East Branch Channel and widens the road from two to four lanes near Golf Course Road with asphalt final layer to Unser Boulevard. Expected start this month and finish by October.

Rio Rancho GRT Revenue Beats Budget Projections

Rio Rancho reports January GRT distribution to the general fund was 2.19 million reflecting November activity. Through this fiscal year the fund has 15.5 million in GRIT income, about 1.5 percent above revised estimates, with 6.1 percent year over year growth. City budget adjustments were approved at the February 11 meeting.

PARCC tests begin for NM students in grade three to 11

Albuquerque Journal outlines that New Mexico will roll out the PARCC standardized test starting Monday for grades three through 11, with about 11,000 students in Rio Rancho Public Schools. The test, online with paper options for some, aims to measure math writing and reading readiness for college or career and will affect school grades and teacher evaluations starting 2016.
