Boyden Men Attend District Lutheran Meet in Britt

The 21st annual Iowa District Brotherhood convention of the American Lutheran Church met June 1 and 2 at First Lutheran Church in Britt with 254 delegates and visitors. From Boyden's St. John's Lutheran Church were Alfred Fick, Fred Woelber as delegates and Albert Winter, Herman Winter as visitors. Awarded funds included 500 to Wartburg College and 1250 to Wartburg Seminary for chapel air conditioning, 1000 to Revolving Mission Fund, and 300 to the Christian Crusaders broadcast, among others.

Grooters Buy Ben Franklin Store in Sheldon

Mr and Mrs L V Grooters of Boyden have purchased the Ben Franklin Store in Sheldon with possession set for Monday June 17. Mr Grooters has worked with Farm Bureau Insurance the past year and a half while Mrs Grooters taught at Matlock public school. The couple and their sons Ronnie and Daryl plan to move to Sheldon this month.

Local residents report illnesses and hospital care

SICK and INJURED Mrs. Gerrit Slothauber was confined to her home all last week due to a blood clot in her leg. She is slowly improving at this writing. Mr. Gerrit Uittenbogaard entered the Methodist Hospital in Sioux City where he underwent a kidney operation Tuesday evening. Mrs. John Overgaauw is confined to her bed due to illness.

Mayor's Court Fines Van Briesen for Speeding and Peace Disturbance

Verlyn Ray Van Briesen of Boyden was arrested by Marshal Henry Ruyter for speeding and disturbing the peace. He pled guilty in the Mayor's court and was fined $17 with $10 suspended. his driver’s license must be surrendered for thirty days.

Norvan Roggens Leaves on 64-Day Continental Study Tour

Mr and Mrs Norvan Roggens head from Boyden on Thursday with 28 companions for a 64 day study abroad tour. Sponsored by the University of South Dakota and Morningside College the trip begins June 14 sailing from Quebec. Aubergs Plan Summer Stay in Minnesota

Graduation Exercises at University of Iowa Confers 1000 Degrees

The State University of Iowa awarded about 1,100 degrees at spring commencement in the Fieldhouse. President Vergil M. Hancher delivered the charge, and W Howard Chase gave the Commencement Address. Degrees spanned 98 Iowa counties 38 states Hawaii and eight foreign countries.
