A benefit softball game is planned for June 20 to aid a Carmel player who broke his jaw last year at Boyden. The Boyden club will host Carmel in the charity matchup as part of a local sports night.

St John Lutheran Church lists no German service this Sunday with 8:30 worship and 9:45 Sunday School and 10:15 English service. Luther League meets the first and third Sundays at 8:00. Dorcas Society meets June 19 at 8:00 with film Choosing Your Life's Work. Holy Communion in English on June 23. Special meeting June 20 at 7:45 for pastor call. Dr Siefkes to meet council at 7:30. Sunday School picnic June 30 at noon pot luck. Adult Bible Class June 23 at 9:00 focuses on Praying in an Evil World.

Friday August 9 talent contest offers cash prizes in three classes juvenile under 12 teenage 12 21 and adults 22 92 judged by experts in music drama and pop. Elimination auditions July 13 in Rock Rapids community building from 1 30 to 6 and 7 30 to 9 p m. Entry blanks available at the Boyden Reporter before July 11.
Graduates from Iowa State College at Ames received 988 degrees and certificates at the June 15 commencement in the College Armory. The class included 33 Doctor of Philosophy, 70 Master of Science, 55 Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, 9 Bachelor of Architecture, 2 Master of Landscape Architecture, 1 Master of Vocational Education, 814 Bachelor of Science, and 7 farm operation certificates. Lee Moret, son of Mr and Mrs Peter L Moret of Boyden, attended with his family and will report for military service at Fort Bliss, Texas, July 22.

Word from Boyden friends says former Boyden banker Paul T. McCrum had a serious operation last week in Long Beach California. He is reported to be recovering and is at 258 Prospect Ave.
The Ladies Aid Society will hold a pot luck picnic supper Thursday June 27 at 6 30 p m on church grounds for members and husbands with an evening program. The annual Sunday School picnic follows Friday June 28 with afternoon and evening events and a program by Sunday School classes.
The Farmers Savings Bank sponsored Men’s Bowling Team members and wives dined at the Normandy in Sioux City on Wednesday evening. Attending were Clifford Vander Wilt Logan Vanden Brink Norman Bell Kenneth Meyn and Wm Rosenboom. Leroy Van Meeteren could not attend.
Mr and Mrs Art Uittenbogaard welcomed a daughter weighing 6 pounds 13 ounces named Betty Lou born on Wednesday June 12 at Shel don hospital. She has one sister and one brother. Grandparents are Mr Len Moret and Mr and Mrs Gerrit Uittenbogaard.

The St John Lutheran Church led by Rev H J Knoploh will send delegates to the Iowa District American Lutheran Church convention at St Paul Lutheran Church and Wartburg College Waverly from June 25 to 27 More than 180 Iowa congregations will be represented with pastors and lay delegates Iowa is set to merge with two other Lutheransynods in 1960 creating a two million member national body Dr H W Siefkes of Waterloo will open the convention at 8 pm Monday June 24 and other church leaders will speak and lead services through June 27 including Dr Carl Lundquist Dr F Eppling Beinhartz and Dr Edward Fendi.
Rev. H. J. Knoploh, pastor of St. John Lutheran, accepted the call from St. Peter Lutheran Church in Benson Illinois. He will leave July 2 to begin his new pastoral duties there.
Miss Rita Knoploh daughter of Rev and Mrs H J Knoploh is attending summer school at Augustana College in Sioux Falls during her vacation.
The Sandy Hollow pool near Sioux Center starts the summer Red Cross swimming program on Monday June 24. Classes run six days a week with groups from Hull Boyden Newkirk Carmel and Sioux Center. A full schedule covers Beginners Intermediates Junior Life Saving and Swimmers led by trained instructors and lifeguards. Season tickets fund the program with family admission and gate sales plus ongoing donations to Sandy Hollow committee.
The Boyden Public School board confirms Dale Moen, principal for the last two years, has accepted the superintendent position. He will succeed Earl Ed Hall, who resigned last week.
The Sheridan 4 H Sunshiners plan a Thursday gathering on June 27 at the Larry Salmon residence. Hostesses Mary Ellen Salmon and Margaret Ann Bosman will welcome members who should bring their record books up to date.
The Home Mission Circle of the First Reformed Church will meet Tuesday June 25 at 8 00 p m in the church parlors. The topic is Dishpan Missionary with Mrs Larry Salmon as leader and hostesses Mrs John Veen and Mrs Robert Dethmers. Roll call Salvation.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bosman entertained Saturday evening at their home honoring Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Vander Tuig of Sheldon on their 10th wedding anniversary. Guests included the Vander Tuigs and their sons, the Larry Salmon family, the Gerrit J. Bosman family with children, and the Glenn Blankers family with Gaylene.
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 272 met with 16 members at the Legion Hall. Election of officers led by Mrs. Ed R. Blumeyer produced a full slate including President Blumeyer and Vice President Norman Bell. A luncheon followed the program with Junior Auxiliary and Auxiliary members in attendance.
County Assessor announces deadline of Monday July 1 1957 to file for Homestead and Military Tax Exemptions. Applications must be submitted to receive credit on 1957 taxes payable in 1958. after that date, none may be accepted by law.
Irwin Muilenberg was elected president of the North western college Alumni Association at a banquet in Heemstra Hall. He succeeds Lewis De Koster. Vernon Schoep and Del Te Paske were named vice presidents. Matilda Vander Wilt is secretary and Mitchell Moret treasurer.
Voters in Sioux County ASC farm program elections will choose three farmers as township ASC community committee members plus two alternates. Nominations closed June 21 with 10 or more names. ballots mailed by June 28 to 4800 eligible voters. Counting at Orange City July 10, with results announced soon after and terms begin August 1.
Mr. Gerrit Ullenbogaard returned home Monday afternoon from Methodist hospital in Sioux City. Mrs. Vernon Van Ommeren entered Grossman hospital in Orange City Monday afternoon and underwent surgery Tuesday morning.
