Remembered Pioneer Jacob Berkes of Sheldon Dies in 1924
Jacob Berkes born February 3 1859 in Wilder vank Netherlands came to America in 1884 settled near Boyden and Sheldon Iowa. He married Alida Stientjes in October 1884 and had nine living children. He served as deacon of First Reformed Church Sheldon, helped rebuild the church, and died November 30 1924 at age 65 years 9 months. He left a wife nine children two brothers and two sisters in the Netherlands and 18 grandchildren. An auction notice follows detailing farm property near Sleepy Hollow with horses cattle sheep goats poultry and machinery, to be sold on Friday October 32.
