Ambidextrous Slants Star Spriggs Heads to West Virginia U
Berkeley Springs pitcher Bobby Spriggs, 16, who can throw both right and left, plans to attend West Virginia University. He quit high school last month after a 2-2 scholastic season, played second and third base, batted .231, and led a multi-sport year as a football captain. Spriggs began ambidextrous pitching in 1947 and reserves warmth considerations for arm changes. The piece notes other local sports items including Daugherty’s triple play attempt, Jim Fridley’s Class C hitting, and regional tennis and football updates.
