Tucumcari’s City Commission approved a nearly 486000 dollar contract to MAXTEK Contractors for a new landfill cell after the first cell filled early. The vote was 4 1 with Dora Salinas McTigue opposing over local subcontractor concerns.
The Tucumcari City Commission approved an Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan for 2015 to 2018 led by a new 425000 landfill trash compactor and 550000 to repair a leaking Center Street water tank. Other top items include Ute Lake water supply funding, Aber Street water system upgrades, and wastewater treatment plant improvements.
The Tucumcari Homecoming vote ended in a tie with Ginger Carr and Linda Kinkead named as the first dual queens. Fire department leaders tested a new fire truck before service. Archbishop Edwin V. Byrne visited Saint Anne's Church for confirmation. George F. Curtis ran a major Eastern New Mexico dry land farming operation.
Smithing from Page 1 reports over 100 competitors attended a front and back horseshoe event for a draft horse. The invitation only contest used peer judging and a $2,100 prize. Participants voted to split the prize, praising camaraderie and experience, with plans for seating and improvements next year.
