Tucumcari City Commission will discuss reinstating City Manager Doug Powers at Thursday’s 6 p.m. meeting at City Hall. The agenda lists Consideration of Reinstatement of Employment of Doug Powers as New Business. The previous 3-2 vote to fire Powers occurred September 26 without prior public discussion.
Unemployed federal workers affected by the shutdown may apply for unemployment insurance through the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions. Access is online at jobs.state.am.us or via the UI Operations Center at 1-877-664-6984.
Interim supervisor Michael Rivera told city commissioners on September 26 the wastewater plant is under funded understaffed and missing key components. Assistant city manager Charlie Sandoval said problems exist but are not more critical than other city department issues. Commissioner Dora Salinas McTigue urged action citing plant flaws and landfill use by other communities. Lumpkin noted regional landfill plans and nearly 500000 in new section costs. Rivera cited a grit removal device not functioning since 2007 allowing grit in pumps.
