Hospital Bound Veterans Should Reserve Space and Plan
John P. Gray of the Pocatello VA office advises veterans to reserve bed space before traveling to a VA hospital. The VA uses a priority system: emergency cases, service-connected injuries or diseases, permanently disabling illnesses not due to service, then all other non service connected conditions. If a bed is available for non service connected illness, the veteran must sign an affidavit of inability to pay private care.

Girdling Mice Threaten Idaho Fruit Trees
Idaho fruit growers are warned by University of Idaho extension horticulturist Tony Horn about mice girdling trees. In one orchard about 80 percent of trees showed girdling and half had root girdling. Dig around bases to detect damage and act quickly on trees over four years old. Bridge grafting, using dormant last year’s scions when buds swell, can save many trees if done early.
