Fragmentary OCR notes discuss an odd Bayview apartment guest list and stray remarks about refunds and Alley Oop. The text references a Port, a tiger cave, and a current adventure, with scattered musings on surprise and wonder. The passage is incomplete and ambiguous.
The article notes Padre Beach’s appeal as a southern Texas coast resort with sand beaches and fishing, aided by a proposed causeway across Laguna Madre completed in 1954 and Cameron County’s development of parks and a boulevard to spur future growth. Tompkins promotes the area’s proximity to the Mexican border and its drawing card of reefs to attract visitors and investors.
Corpus Christi developer Tompkins, owner of John L. Tompkins and Company with offices in Corpus Christi Brownsville and Port Isabel, is turning Padre Beach into a new island city. He dredges a 70 foot channel to supply soil for elevation gains while smoothing dunes up to 35 feet high and stabilizing them with mainland top soil. He calls the project the fun of a lifetime and says it’s not every day you can build a new city on an island.
