Polk Cubs overpower Genoa Orioles 25 nothing to notch their second straight conference win. Key plays by Long Holmes Kahler and Shostrom fueled a dominant Polk ground game behind a strong line led by captain Nielsen. Next up, Polk visits Newman Grove in a non conference showdown Friday at 8 p.m. Miss Ann Louise Taylor of York spent the weekend with the Taylor Brothers.

B H Taylor Buried in Benedict

B H Taylor died early Saturday after a period of illness culminating in pneumonia. Funeral services were held at the Benedict Methodist Church at 2 30 p m Wednesday. The Ministerial Association elected officers for the year with Paul Walker president Milford Olson secretary treasurer and Nels Pearson publicity.

Polk High School News Highlights Polk County Teachers Meet

Polk County Teachers Association held its first meeting at the United Brethren Church in Shelby with Superintendent Glenn Tabor elected president. Upcoming events include a meeting October 11 at Osceola, six weeks exams, and report cards the next week.

Remarkable September Strawberry Yields Reported

Mrs. J. C. McClure found 80 berries on a single Mastodom plant, with another plant yielding 64 after a season of careful care and removed runners. Local residents shared weekend visits and football outings across York Aurora and Grand Island areas. A baby boy weighing seven pounds 15 ounces was born to Earl and wife.

John Zollars Dies Sudden in Osceola

John Zollars died suddenly Sunday evening at the Rest Home in Osceola after moving to Polk recently with Mrs. Zollars. He had been staying with his children the past two months due to his wife’s illness. Funeral services were held at Kepner Funeral Home in Osceola Thursday afternoon.

Arborville Missionary and Aid Society Meets at Ester Lackey Home

Fourteen members and visitors attended the Arborville Missionary and Aid Society gathering at Ester Lackey home. Mrs. Robert Merchant led a Hawaii themed lesson. Planning for a fall bazaar was discussed during the business meeting. Lunch was served by Mrs. Estor Lackey.

School Day Party Draws Members In School Themed Meeting

The Country Womens Club met September 22 at Mrs. Roger Gustafson home with Mrs. Willard Adelson and Mrs. Ilos Ostberg assisting. Members dressed as school children and joined spelling bees and games. Hostesses served lunches in sacks and later ice cream and cake. The club plans a bus trip to Lincoln in October.

Promotion Sunday Observed at Methodist Church

Promotion Sunday was observed at the Methodist Church during worship. About 50 Sunday School pupils from primary and junior departments sang choruses and presented memory work. Honors went to Gary Green and Dolan Hahn for two years perfect attendance. Sheralee Hill and Sondra Hill for four years. Marilyn Hahn for five years.

Stevens Celebrates 79th Birthday With Family bash

W A Stevens marked his 79th birthday Sunday afternoon at the Glenn Hill home. About 60 relatives and friends attended, with out of town guests from Omaha and Lincoln. A two course lunch followed and photos were taken as gifts of flowers candies and other items were given.

Polk County convention planned in Polk next Tuesday

Polk County Convention of the Nebraska Federation of Women’s Clubs will meet at Polk Methodist Church next Tuesday October 4. The program includes registration, devotions, flag tribute, greetings, luncheon, speeches by Rev Paul Walker and Mrs B W Stewart, music by Miss Leota Sneed and a pageant by Stromsburg Civic Improvement Club with installation of new officers and tea.

Rally and Promotion Day at Baptist Church

Rally and Promotion Day were combined last Sunday during the Sunday School hour at the Baptist Church. Each department superintendent led class promotions after special numbers. A large attendance included out-of-town visitors. Families brought covered dish lunches and the fellowship dinner followed the service in the church parlors.

Kenneth L Stewart Named Cashier of Citizens State Bank

At a September 17, 1949 directors meeting Kenneth L Stewart was elected cashier of Citizens State Bank. He succeeds Arnold and brings prior banking experience from Marquette Nebraska and the First National Bank. Stewart currently serves as Secretary Treasurer of the National Farm Loan office at Wahoo and plans to move his family to Polk as housing is found.
