Polk Cubs clip Newman Grove 13 to 9 in rough game

Polk High Cubs defeated Newman Grove 13 to 9 on Newman Grove’s field. Roy Long connected with Burdette Flodman for Polk’s first score and a second TD followed in the third period. Roger’s punt total stood out with 147 yards. The loss left Newman Grove frustrated as Polk tightened their lead in the Goldenrod Conference race.

WCTU County Convention to Be Held in Polk

The County WCTU convention meets at Polk Methodist Church next Wednesday October 12. The program includes devotionals, welcome, reports from county and local presidents, music, speaker introduction, temperance sermon, flag salutes, noon Luncheon, memorial service, reports from directors and auditing committee, treasurer report, address by Mrs. Lawrence Ring, state vice president, election of officers and benediction.

John Silas Zollars born July 24 1867 in Tipton Iowa died September 25 at age 82. He married Carrie E Birth August 19 1895 at Rising City Nebraska and had ten children, nine living. Osceola Host to County Extension Club Meeting

Osceola hosts the County-wide Achievement meeting of Women’s Extension Clubs on October 11 at the Osceola high school auditorium. Truck Crash Fatal Near Polk Claims Glen Bedient

Glen Bedient and a Benedict Coop. truck collided five miles southeast of Polk Thursday morning around 11 o’clock. Bedient died Saturday evening at 11:30 from injuries. he leaves a wife and five children. Funeral services were held at Metz Chapel in York with burial in Arborville cemetery.

Mrs Harold Cramer entertained the Faithful Workers at her home last Wednesday with 23 members and four visitors present. Hordville News Social Ties Mark Weekend in Area

Local families visited relatives in Lincoln and nearby towns over the weekend. A Mennone FCYF rally and Mamre Young People gathering took place. numerous guests shared meals and birthdays were celebrated across Stromsburg and surrounding farms.

Missionary Society to Meet at Arborville Church

The Woman's Missionary Society of Arborville Congregational Church will hold a regular session on Wednesday October 12 at the home of Mrs Floyd Merchant with Mrs Leand Bowers assisting. Alaska will be the subject. Rev Earle Eaton attended the Regional Scout Crusade Round Table in Lincoln last week and is Merick County Commissioner and a member of the Extension and Promotion Committee of Luplatte District BSA. He also attended the State Convention of the WCTU in Central City and is an honorary member of the Union active in temperance circles.

Arborville Pastor Declines Moderator Nomination

Rev. E. Earle Eaton of Arborville Congregational Church was nominated moderator of the Blue Valley Association of Churches at Hastings but declined in favor of a more senior colleague. Eaton previously served as moderator for the Oneida Chananga and Delaware District Churches in New York.
