57 Years of Happy Married Life in Polk County

This week’s Bouquet honors Ames and Mrs. Lind for 57 years of marriage in Polk County. The Linds, longtime farmers turned retirees, have deep Baptist church ties, with Mrs. Lind teaching the Bible class and Mr. Lind serving as deacon and choir member. Their family includes Emma Anderson, Lillie, Winnie, and Lloyd, all active in local education, religion, or farming.

Four Polk County youths inducted into armed forces

Four young men from Polk County departed Thursday to enter the armed forces. The inductees are Wallace W. Glatter, Shelby LaVaughn A. Adelson, Stromsburg Ness E. Braithwait, and Shelby Forrest H. Bahm.

Second and Third Graders Complete Reading Review

Both second and third grades finish reviewing last year’s reading books. The second grade now reads Winston’s Along The Way. The third grade reads Winston’s Faraway Ports.

School Activities Chronicle Report

The seventh and eighth grades completed their Junior Scholastic copies and started Social Studies map work. The Senior Class organized officers and prepared for football game advertising with merchants and a Friday night game against Genoa at Polk. Announcements were arranged with Balfour Co for senior contracts. Faculty attended a Goldenrod Conference meeting in Osceola. Questionnaires were sent to parents to survey child disease experiences to improve health.

Myers Family Returns From Midwest Vacation

Mr and Mrs Dean Myers returned home Sunday from a vacation trip in Wisconsin and Minnesota. En route they visited the Earl Rasmussen family in Madison Nebraska and Mrs Myers parents Mr and Mrs Lewis Beck in Poole as well as Mr and Mrs Chas Myers in Phillips. The Myers girls Lynda and Jolene visited grandparents at Poole and Phillips respectively.

Polk prepares for a season opener against Genoa with an inexperienced squad after Ken Bowers injury. Neighborhood birthday parties brighten Polk gatherings

In Polk on Tuesday Mrs. Wm. Stankel hosted a group honoring their hostess and on Friday afternoon Mrs. Frank Fossberg welcomed the neighborhood club. Dainty refreshments accompanied these pleasant gatherings. Several Polk families attended a Royal Neighbor party at Hurdville Friday evening for a social occasion.

Vic Johnson Wins Old Refrigerator Derby Victory

Vic Johnson, owner of a 1928 Philco box, won the Old Refrigerator Derby sponsored by Philco Co. He received a $9995 Philco radio phonograph from Everett Green. Ten runners up earned $253 checks. twenty-five entries helped the event, with Vic still eligible for further prizes across the Nebraska district.

Village Board Studies Fluorine in Water
