Bridal Shower Honoring Mrs. LaVaughn Adelson Held

Mrs. Robert Shostrom and others hosted a bridal shower for Mrs. LaVaughn Adelson at the Shostrom home. The First Methodist Youth Fellowship began fall gatherings on September 9 in the church basement led by President Pete Hahn. Polk girls earned awards at the State Fair across Homemaking Yard Beautification and Activities. Shirley Stevens won blue for a poster and secretary book. Martha Creech earned red for spice cake and rolls. Sheralee Hill and Sondra Hill collected multiple blues for cakes and bread. Carlyn Strand received white for a bird house. Funeral services held for Wayne Upton at Baptist Church

Wayne Upton's funeral took place Sunday afternoon at the Baptist Church with Rev. Elwood Anderson officiating. The Lemuel Wilcox Post No. 160 conducted military honors and presented the U S flag to Wayne's wife on behalf of the United States Government. Burial followed at Stromsburg cemetery.

Auxiliary Holds First Meeting of New Year

The American Legion Auxiliary met at the Legion Hall with Lauretta Neuhaus as new president. They contributed 5 dollars to Kansas flood relief and planned to cover expenses for two delegates to the District Convention in Columbus on September 19. The group voted to sponsor the Bloodmobile unit in Polk County when it returns in about three months and urged blood donations. New Students Join Room as Garden Flowers Brighten Week

Two new pupils Irene Ruzicka in second grade and Flo rence Ruzicka in fourth grade join the class. Enrollment starts at twenty then falls to nineteen after Daniel Westfall moves to Indianola. The science table remains the popular spot with a variety of specimens brought in.

Seventh and Eighth Grades Enrollment Update

The seventh grade opened with 13 students and the eighth grade with six. Bruce Walker enrolled Tuesday to bring the seventh grade to 14 students. There are four boys and ten girls in seventh, and one boy and four girls in eighth. Rosella Lindholm and Beverly Peetzke were absent one day for the State Fair. Beverly Peetzke is a Junior Band member.
