Visitation week announced for Polk and Swede Plain United Methodist churches. Rev A C Bates leads Morning Worship at Swede Plain 10 am with Church School at 11 am, Polk Church School at 10 am and Morning Worship 11 am. Hordville Methodist holds Sunday School 10 am Worship 11 am and 7:30 pm devotion and quarterly conference led by Dist Sant Carlyon.
First Baptist Church schedule shows services at 10 00 a m 12 00 p m and 8 00 p m with Miss Marguerite Hubbard speaker for Ethiopia mission BYPU on patronage lawn and prayer meeting led by Walter J Nelson. Free Methodist quarterly meeting opens Sept 19 20 and 21 with Rev D W Smith from Lincoln as speaker. Mr and Mrs Ray Icker of Cleveland Ohio were dinner guests with Max Jones family. Ray and Max once shared a year in the Philippines wartime.
A formal recommendation from Captain Hollis A Fisher for Technician Fourth Class Dwayne L Hahn 17160054 of Service Company 20th Infantry Regiment. Hahn served as Section Chief of the Morning Report Section for several months, proving reliable, conscientious, and detail oriented with long hours and cheerful performance. His departure will be a noted loss to the unit.
Polk County 4 H club members announce Ak-Sar-Ben livestock entries and upcoming shows. 4 H leaders urge early calf and feeder stock estimates and report Tom Brigham's new Hampshire ewe project. Obituary: Charles Henry VanHoosen, Osceola native, died September 14 1947 aged 66. Funeral in Osceola with burial at family plot.
O A Watkins 67 of Shelby died at home early Monday after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Shelby Methodist Church with interment in Shelby Cemetery. He was the father of Mrs. Melvin Wieseman of this city.
The Swede Home Church will hold Morning Worship at 10 a m on the 16th Sunday after Trinity. Sunday School follows the sermon. If the church is not ready for use, services will be held in the hall.
