Remembering the base burner and washday in San Francisco
A reflective letter recounts a half century old home life in Polk and San Francisco. It recalls the family base burner heating, early central systems, and the washday ritual with a hand powered wringer and boiler. The writer notes the kitchen as the social center and recalls a school incident tied to chores.
