All-Sports Day Draws Large Community Crowd and Exciting Events

A sizable crowd attended the community All-Sports Day with an afternoon and evening turnout, topped by 1400 spectators. Highlights included an 8-6 midget baseball win by Aurora over Polk, bicycle polo, and the All-Star softball game featuring the Thugs versus the Plugs with tight defense and big hits.

Corinne Carlson Weds Lavaughn Adelson at Salem Lutheran

Miss Corinne Carlson and Lavaughn Adelson married August 21 at Salem Lutheran Church Stromsburg in a 7:00 PM ceremony. Rev. Thur Johnson officiated. Attendants were Marland Adelson and Roberta Carlson. The couple plans a westward honeymoon then Lavaughn enters service in September.

Berggren Family Holds Annual Reunion at Buckley Park

The Berggren reunion gathered about eighty relatives at Buckley Park on Sunday August 26. Guests included Mrs Gladys Woodworth and numerous Berggren relatives from Lincoln Omaha Clarks Polk Stromsburg and Gresham.

Ostbergs and relatives visit Kilgore kin

Mrs Flora Ostberg and Mr and Mrs RH Friederici of Kilgore Texas arrived Saturday for a week long visit with their son and brother Ilos and Mrs Ostberg. Ed Ostberg of Wood River was a weekend guest. Polk community meets Red Cross flood relief quota

The Polk community answered the Red Cross call for flood relief with donations from Free Church $21.30, Methodist Church $22, Baptist Church $53.60, and Swede Plain Church $8.36. Additional gifts to the Methodist Flood Relief Fund totaled Swede Plain $92.30 and Polk Methodist $81.00, as the flood region faced substantial losses. Mrs. Paul Strand chaired the drive.

Former Polk Resident Ray Peterson Dies in Utah

Word was received of the death of Ray Peterson, a former Polk resident, who died after a lingering illness at Salt Lake City on Friday, August 31. His home is listed as Idaho Falls, Idaho. Funeral services were held there Monday. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Donald and Burdette.

Stach-Finster Picnic Brings Diverse families Together

The Stach-Finster picnic was held Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schulze. Eldest attendees included Mrs Minnie Fenster Hampton and Mrs Hulda Stach. Mrs Arthur Branting Dies in Colorado

Mrs. Arthur Branting of North Platte passed away suddenly at Grand Lake Colorado on Wednesday August 29. The widow of Arthur Branting she lived near Polk with her husband and seven children survive. Sisters Mrs Ralph Branting Polk Mrs Er nest Wilshusen and Miss Viola Ueckert Hampton also survive along with one other sister and three brothers. Funeral details were held Tuesday afternoon at North Platte attended by family members.

Merry Makers Receive Honors At County Fair

The Merry Makers 4-H Club won the top purple ribbon in the County 4-H Singing Contest at Polk County Fair with selections including America and Tell Me Why. They also earned first place for their Food Fanfare booth and a Polk County Fair Special Award funded by the Polk County Farm Bureau. Several members earned state fair exhibits and demonstrations with leaders listed as Mr. Paul Strand, Mrs. Leslie Adelson, and Carlyn Strand.
