Mr and Mrs Norman Reknor are the parents of a baby girl born October 14 weighing 6 lbs 13 0z named Jamie Heather. Mr and Mrs Larry Bengtoon of Grand Island are the parents of Shana Kristine weighing 7 lbs 5 oz and 19 inches long born at St Francis hospital. Mr and Mrs Harry Anderson are the maternal grandparents.
The Union Pacific depot in Polk was moved to the Ron Meerkatz farm a mile west on Tuesday. The scene shows the building on blocks ready for the move as older Progress teachers recall the steam era delight, with trains, the Bug motor coach, and bustling daily freight runs.
The new Polk Elementary School, rebuilt after a December 1973 fire, will be dedicated Sunday November 2 with open house 1 to 5 p.m. and ceremonies at 2 30. Dr Bruce Cowgill ESU 7 Columbus will speak. program includes Cub Scout Pack 163 colors, Polk Swing Choir, and building key presentation by Harold Carlson.
Mr Willard Adelson entered University Hospital in Omaha on Tuesday for tests. Walter Nelson returned home Saturday from the Hospital in Central City after treatments begun Tuesday.
American Legion Auxiliary invites all possible members to attend a guest night on November 10, 1975 at 8 00. The eligibility includes mothers wives daughters sisters and granddaughters of the American Legion. Do not wait for a personal invitation plan to attend the meeting.
Polk Public Library welcomes new titles including American Presidents Biography Waiting to Hear William Times Three and Orphan Jim plus children's books. Mrs Ethel Lindeberg of Fort Dodge Iowa, sister-in-law of the late Sigrid Alfred, donated a box of books in memory of Mrs O F Alfred. The Women's Club contributed poems by Americans as a memorial gesture.
Polk Cubs overwhelmed Osceola Bulldogs 34-8 at home. Curt Burney scored on a 1 yard keeper, Randy Branting and Dana Anderson connected on passes, and Byron Miller intercepted to spark the 4th quarter pick six. Final drive featured Rick Flodman and Brian Bedient as Polk extended its lead before subs closed the game.
Mrs Ruth Lux of Osceola and Mr and Mrs Wayne Tyler of Polk were among 14 county chairmen recognized at the statewide bicentennial convention in Bellevue on September 25 26. The special awards luncheon honored outstanding work in organizing Bicentennial programs. Polk County led Nebraska by organizing all citizens into Bicentennial communities.
The Polk Methodist Church United Methodist Women host a Senior Citizens Bingo on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Legion Hall. Hostesses invite former Polk residents now living elsewhere to join the event.
