Great Nebraska City Fire of 1860s Nebraska City Disaster
A massive May 12 1960 fire in Nebraska City destroyed about 38 buildings along Main and Sixth Streets. Coleman's Butcher Shop sparked the blaze amid dry winds. 13 insurers paid over 62000 in claims as residents saved papers and furniture. The culprit was later tied to an incendiary theory and sawdust combusting from Coleman's shop.
