Helpful Neighbors Aid Corn Harvest Near Polk

Burdette Flodman of near Polk, one of the first farmers to finish corn picking, oversaw a neighborhood effort after a recent highway accident left him with a neck brace. Jensen couple celebrated Silver Wedding at Polk Methodist

Rev and Mrs Harold Jensen were honored on Sunday afternoon October 25 at Polk Methodist Church for their Silver wedding anniversary. Oscar Stindberg led. music by a ladies trio. Rev Woods read scripture. A skit depicted moments from the couple's life. gifts included a money tree and a church shower.

County institutes and skating party planned for students

Kindergarten through sixth grade students have a day off Friday November 6 for a county teacher institute in Osceola. That evening teachers will host a roller skating party for grades 4 through 8 at Aurora from 7 to 9 p.m. Bus departure from Polkigrade School is 6:15 p.m. return by 10:00 p.m. Parents may ride along to sponsor the group. Birthday Club: Mrs Walter Fisher entertained her club Friday with three guests. lunch was served.

Regents exam set for next week and scholarship talk

The top third of the senior class will take Regents exams on November 4 to determine scholarship eligibility for the University of Nebraska and aid placement. Regents scholars listed include Steven Flodman Janice Smith Karen Funk Vance Stoh Pat Ramsey Linda Kisler Sherivan Wilshusen Barbara Glasser Connie Jones and Marlene Coover. John Reckner won last year and attends the university. U N entrants may take the exam for entrance but are not eligible under Regents sponsorship. The Happy Hour Club will sponsor a fundraiser for the Retarded Children School at Columbus with a house to house canvass Tuesday and 3 containers in stores this weekend for contributions.

Polk Cubs Defeat Osceola 20 to 12 in Loop Clash

Polk downed Osceola 20 12 on the home field to extend their winning streak to ten. Richard Brockevelt opened scoring with a 60 yard TD, Dick Mundt added the extra point and Osceola answered with a 5 yard run by Craig Monson. Brockevelt added a 15 yard TD before half, Sealey scored Polk’s last TD and Osceola closed with a 3 yard pass. Dennis Carlstrom and Dennis Widga anchored Polk’s defense.

Parent teacher confabs set

Parents and teachers of pupils in kindergarten through 6th will meet on November 5 to discuss student progress and recent physical exam results. Conferences run 15 minutes with appointment times arranged to cover each child. Call Miss Lind at the grade school if papers were not received.

Eastern Star program honors local members in Central City area

Three chapters Three chancers Central City Rising City and Gresham attended a program in the Eastern Star chapter room on Monday evening October 26. Shirley Gustafson led the evening with a corsage presentation for officers. Darlene Shoup and Ruth Kroger sang solos. Anna Belle Wultz, a 50 year member, received a gift. A luncheon followed served by local hosts to 87 members and guests.

Junior Auxiliary plans tags for Christmas gifts

The American Legion Junior Auxiliary held a meeting on Monday October 19 with Linda Myers presiding and 18 members present. They will make 250 Christmas package tags for Veterans Hospital Grand Island and lunch was provided by Mrs Doremus and Mrs Baack.
