The Extension Project Women of Polk County announce their annual achievement day on November 9 in the Osceola High School Auditorium. The program includes a Shelby Players play and musical skits by clubs, with music and entertainment for attendees.
The Friendly Family Club met on Wednesday October 20 at Mrs. Al Thorstenson’s home with all members present plus three visitors. Mrs. Neil Doremus and Mrs. Francis Dore mus demonstrated Color in the Home. The next meeting is set for November 17 at Mrs. Neil Doremus’s home with a lunch served by the hostess.
In honor of birthday anniversaries of Mrs Harold Green and Mrs Homer Green, celebrated at the home of Leonard Warnick and Emma Mayo with guests including Mr and Mrs Everett Green and Regy, Mr and Mrs Homer Green and Merlin, Mr and Mrs Walter Green, Mrs Harold Green and children, Mrs Glen Green and Mrs Ruth Green.
Cordell Brown a 65 year old Lincoln resident died last Thursday while visiting Polk with his daughter Mrs Richard Sealey He was survived by his widow and five children in addition to Mrs Sealey.
Three Polk youths Arthur Bates Don Miller and Lois Irene Johnson join the 63 member Pride of the Plains band at Nebraska Wesleyan University directed by Professor Leslie R Marks. The group will perform at football games during the fair and embark on a mid western tour next spring.
About 100 Arborville residents packed the town hall Wednesday for a York Junior Chamber of Commerce program. Entertainers included the Jaycee quartet Fredi Rick and Earl Anderson with steel guitars Rogers Ellsworth piano and M J Simmerman and his dog act. Jaycee President Robert Seigel led singing and contests with prizes donated by local businesses. A lunch followed served by Arborville volunteers.
Last Wednesday, 50 neighbors gathered at Mrs Arthur Eberly’s home to shell about 60 acres of corn. The gathering followed the death of Mr. Arthur Eberly when a tractor overturned and crushed him weeks earlier. Numerous locals aided with hauling, sheltering, unloading, and feeding, with praise for community support amid the tragedy.

The engagement of Laurel Terise Nine to Fred William Yeager Jr is announced by her parents. They set November 4 as the wedding date. Laurel is a Central City High School graduate who attended Dallas College and works for Upjohn Co in Dallas. Fred Yeager is a senior at Southern Methodist University and a Lambila Chi Alpha member.
Mr and Mrs Clyde Ericson and daughters join Mr and Mrs Ed Schinzel and family for a Sunday dinner. Mr and Mrs Ernest Ericson and Harold Covey announce a public sale and plan to move to San Diego. Ira Ready and daughter Shirley visit in Stromsburg. Donald Nordlund travels to Clarinda Iowa with his parents before returning to Chicago. Mrs TM Williams hosts a Wednesday afternoon gathering with several guests. Edwin Anderson and Clara Emma visit at Clarkson hospital and dine with Harland Egbert in Valley. Howard Searle and Phyllis arrive from Topeka and stay with J T Stanton. Patty Kisler visits Marquette. H Bush and Mrs George Wright visit the Van Bush home. Merle Lavelle and family visit Elmer Garner.

Twenty members of the Coun try Womens Club chartered a bus for a five am departure to Omaha. They toured Boys Town and other sights, had lunch at Paxton Gallagher, saw the butternut coffee process and the supreme cookie bakery, shopped, then returned to Wahoo for supper. Multiple local residents visited relatives and attended events in nearby towns over the weekend.
On Sunday October 24 Mr and Mrs Henry Mundt observed their 40th anniversary with a family dinner. Betty Mundt and Annette Wilshusen served the honored table. A decorated cake and bouquets adorned the hall as coffee cake and ice cream were shared. Out of town guests included relatives from Atlantic Crete Hampton Polk York and Eureka California.
