Peterson of Polk Dies After Long Illness at 71
Carl Albert Peterson died at Polk Nebraska on October 29 1948 at age 71 after years of ill health. Born November 15 1876 he farmed near Polk and later ran a well business until illness confined him to bed for a year. He married Ida Nordstrom in 1925. Services were held at Brauer funeral home with burial at Swede Plain cemetery. He is survived by his wife and siblings. Community letters and songs accompanied the service. County organizes for CROP driveNovember 7 13 to fund Overseas Program with local committees in Osceola Stromsburg Shelby and Polk for cash contributions to ship flour to Europe.

Polk Girls Initiated into Nebraska Wesleyan Chapter
Two Polk girls, Helen Jeannie Lind and Janice Ann Sundberg, were among 42 students initiated into the Nebraska Wesleyan University chapter of the Association for Childhood Education this week. The national organization, led by Alma Lois Rodgers from the education department, includes only education majors and aims to promote strong educational programs and practices.

Halloween Party Draws Legion Couples in Costume
Legion members and Auxiliary members hosted a Halloween Costume Party on Thursday evening October 28. Sixty five attended to enjoy decorations, games, Bunco, and a buffet lunch. Prizes went to Mrs Oscar Sundberg and Mr Oscar Jones for best costumes, with Dr C R Peterson winning the door prize. Out of town guests included Dr and Mrs C R Peterson of Osceola and Commander and Mrs R B Lytle of Portsmouth Virginia.

Church Honors Pastor and Mrs Anderson in Hordville Dinner

Institutional On-Farm Training for veterans is held each Thursday evening at Osceola High School. The class has room to grow with a maximum of 25 veterans. Veterans can obtain information or help with applications by visiting the Vocational Agriculture Department at Osceola High or by mailing a postcard to Maurice Newcomer, Farm Veteran Instructor, Osceola High School, stating their town.
