Ronald Mark weighing seven pounds one ounce was born to Rev. and Mrs. Elwood Ander son on Monday October 16. Jolene An eight pounds one ounce was born to Mr. and Mrs. Dean Myers on Wednesday evening October 18. Both families returned home with mother and baby.
Don Miller reports he has gone to sea aboard USS Princeton C V 37 with address 323 8219 FPO San Francisco California. Roger W Long announces embarkation for Tokyo via plane and lists COMPHIBSPAC and NAVFE offices in care of FPO San Francisco California. See Aunt Jemima Saturday at Strombergs.
Relatives joined Oscar Fredrickson at the Ansel Fredrickson home Sunday to celebrate his 80th birthday. A two course lunch was served to guests including the families of Kenneth Peterson Earl Johnson Marvin Fredrickson and Ollie Johnson of Polk. Those from Swede Home and Stromsburg attended with numerous relatives.
Harry R. Peterson son of August and Selma Peterson died after a brief illness in Mercy Hospital Nampa Idaho. He was born November 6 1888 in Polk County and lived with the Will Stevens family for twenty years. He is survived by five brothers Elmer E Charles J Oscar A William S and Lawrence G and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at Brauer Funeral Home with Rev Paul Walker officiating. Interment at Swede Plain cemetery north of Polk.
Mrs Elwood Sandell and family and Mrs Charles Leach visited Mrs Rudolph Gustafson on Thursday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Clarence Munn of Central City dined with Mr and Mrs Doyle Munn. Carl Johnson, Polk Schools teacher, left Alliance for Denver for army induction after which Mrs Henry Horstman subs. Harvey Zabel hosted weekend guests Starr of Arcadia. The Johnsons entertained Carl Stahl Gunard Stahl and Annette Johnson at supper. Alice Doggett of Stromsburg returned home after two weeks with niece Elmer Gleim. Mrs Ira Glasser and Jane and Hazel Nelson from South Gate California visited the Kroger home. Thor Matson hosted an overnight guest. they watched Africa motion pictures.
The 25th annual Polk County Nebraska Federation of Women's Clubs met October 17 at Polk Methodist Church with 56 registered. The day featured devotions, program presentations, addresses on Frontiers and This and That of Federation, Red Cross and Civil Defense, a Comedy of Errors in Parliamentary Law, and multiple club reports. Officers, guests from Beatrice Seward Beaver Crossing and Stromsburg, and a scholarship loan fund drive were noted along with a luncheon and performances by local clubs.
The WSCS of the Methodist Church will meet Thursday afternoon November 2 at the church. Hostesses are Mrs Helen Tsaacson Mrs Marvin Fredrickson Mrs Victor Johnson and Mrs Paul Strand. Program leaders are Mesdames Grant Johnson Clifford Cramer Hof Ostberg and Charles Lytle.
Twenty two Country Woman's Club members toured Omaha on a day trip starting with breakfast in Wahoo. Stops included Boys Town the School for the Deaf the TV Station the new Veterans Hospital and the airport. They returned to Wahoo for supper.
The Polk High Band joined 61 bands at Band Day in Lincoln last Saturday. The event was held in conjunction with the University of Nebraska and Penn State football game.
Mr and Mrs Richard Widga honored their grandson Larry on his fifth birthday with a Sunday dinner. Attendees included Charles Widga and family of Grand Island Glennis Widga of Lincoln Melcher Widga of Polk and other relatives. Archie Stevens from Arrida Colorado visited wintering with his parents in Central City while Chas Whitemore and August Nelson visited Central City friends.
Mr and Mrs Ed Coover returned home Monday from a two weeks trip visiting relatives in Kansas and Missouri They traveled to Humboldt Kansas Erie and Parsons where they learned of nephew Dennis Coover 23 of Springfield Missouri killed in an airplane crash Funeral attendance followed in Missouri Dennis was son of Forrest Coover En route home the Coovers also visited Karl Karlson formerly of Stromsburg now seriously ill in Lincoln hospital.
The Commodity Credit Corporation declares a 1950 corn support price of 1.38 per bushel for Polk County on grade 3 or higher. Eligible farmers within corn acreages may use loans or purchase agreements, with repayment due by July 31, 1951. Storage details available at the county PMA office.
Mr and Mrs Raymond Stevens and family left Wednesday for Stock ton California after visiting relatives and friends. Mr and Mrs Donald Ostberg visited his parents Sunday in Polk. Mrs Roy Davenport and Mrs Frank Benke and daughter of Aurora spent Friday with Mrs Lloyd Stromberg. Fred Shockey returned home Monday from Stromsburg Hospital. Mr and Mrs Arthur Phillips attended Home Coming at Midland College Fremont Saturday. Mr and Mrs Lloyd Stromberg entertained at Sunday dinner with Mr and Mrs Charles Whitney and family Mrs C L Whitney and James Weatherill of Aurora. Open House Friday at Pioneer Seed Corn Plant Coon Rapids Iowa was attended by Oscar Anderson Henry Cramer Orlie Miller Bob Anderson and Ilof Ostberg.
Mr and Mrs Farnum Williams of Grand Island visited Sunday with Mr and Mrs Harvey Seamons and others. Guests at Stromsburg for Orman Jeffery illness include J L Stouffer and family. State Teachers Convention attendees listed for Lincoln and Omaha meetings. Los Angeles visitors Nels Nyberg and Chauncey Gustafson visited. Weekend trips to Scottsbluff noted. Wayne Person hosted the Oscar Person family Sunday.
The Polk High School Student Council lists officers led by President Jim Klingsporn and Vice President Frank Ostrander. The Home Making class showcases new appliances, while a two day vacation October 26 27 accompanies the State Teacher's convention with lectures by Dr Wells Korbel Eby and Norwood Brice.
Harvey Leamons and his family have settled in Polk after a career in education spanning Belgrade Cedar Rapids Columbus Meadow Grove Rising City and Emer son High School. A Lincoln area native, he champions student guided learning, a stronger shop program and parental cooperation while leading Polk schools. He and his wife Lucille Pennington have two daughters and attend the local Baptist church.
One of the better Polk county farms known as the Maria Carlson farm near Swede Home will be offered at auction on Tuesday November 7 at the south front door of the Osceola courthouse. The farm has no waste land and excellent improvements. Sale to the highest bidder. for more information contact Campbell and Nyberg attorneys or W. W. Norton referee.
Mrs Martha Westfall left Saturday for St Louis to attend the National Postmaster Convention. Mr N S Nyberg and daughter Betty Smith of Los Angeles arrived to visit Nybergs sisters. Mrs Betty Smith traveled to Denver to visit James Newell and family. Mr and Mrs Lauren Gustafson and three children of San Bernardino were guests of Mrs Elmer Anderson and family with supper hosted by Chauncey Gustafson. A birthday dinner for Floyd and Orlie Miller was held at Will Miller's home with many relatives present including the Larsons, the Adelsons and Kealiher family.
