Polk football dropped the season opener 13 to 9 to Stromsburg last Wednesday. Injuries to Osceola participants Len Holmes and Waldon MacNaught, plus Polk stars George Scott and Frank Ostrander, hampered Polk. Ken Werner stood out with punting and defense. Polk heads to Grand Island Friday to face St. Mary’s Cathedral. Good Will Goblins Bring Treats To Aged And Sick
The Wide Awake class of the Methodist Sunday School led by Mrs Irvin Anderson reversed the trick or treat tradition on Halloween Eve by giving fruit candy and cookies to about 50 aged and ill residents. Sixteen youths average age around 12 acted as Good Will Goblins in costume after a party at the new barn of Forrest Anderson hosted by Mrs Anderson and her niece Marlene Anderson. Wednesday guests in the J L Stouffer home were Mr and Mrs N S Nyberg and Mrs Betty Smith of Los Angeles.

Polk High Halloween Party Spooks Guests at Barn Ride
Seniors juniors and sophomores from Polk High School enjoyed a Halloween party hosted by Miss Sheralee Hill. The event began at the Glenn Hill home with singing and games, then a spooky ride to the Forrest Anderson farm barn for a graveyard trail, witches den, fortune teller, and themed lunch before departures on the Good Spook Ship.

About 120 Polk County Legionnaires attended the Fall convention on Thursday October 26 with Jan Hartman a Czechoslovakian refugee as the evening speaker detailing Communist takeovers in his homeland and ski escape to Bavaria in 1948. Art Melies and Harry Decker spoke. Chick Ericson led the meeting. Lowell Hanson became County Adjutant and Alton Wilhelms was toastmaster.

Aunt Jemima Visits Polk At Lloyds Grocery
The famous Aunt Jemima appeared in Polk last Saturday October 28 arriving from Chicago. Lloyd Strombergs Grocery hosted the event and served pancakes to the crowd using about 2700 pancakes 30 pounds of flour 18 quarts of milk 14 cans of Log Cabin syrup and roughly 350 cups of coffee were served.

Postmaster Returns From National Convention in St Louis
