Eighteen members of the Coun try Women’s Club chartered a bus for a Lincoln day trip on Friday October 14 visiting Morrell Hall J P Lau Co Neon signs dairy processing Robert’s Dairy Miller Paine Lincoln Star Capitol Building and Seward supper.

Polk School News Highlights Band Honors and Schedule

Polk students report on the Harvest of Harmony Band results with an excellent Class D rating and a ribbon. No school Thursday and Friday October 27 28 for the State Teachers Convention. Photos were taken by the National School of Studio for student portrait purchases later. Fire Prevention Week drill completed in 51 seconds with students outside the building. Junior and Sophomore classes held social events in the new gym and at a theater. Band Day changes due to University of Nebraska enrollment. Lincoln School of Commerce met with seniors for the Kuder Preference Test. Annual Achievement Day Held Tuesday at Osceola High School

The Osceola High School Auditorium hosted the Extension Club Women for a full program on Tuesday October 11 featuring group singing led by Mrs. Lavelle Lamoree and piano, a demonstration on aluminum etching by Margaret Crosby, and a Singer Sewing Machine attachment demo.

WCTU County Convention Held in Polk

The Polk County WCTU met October 12 at the Polk Methodist Church. Mrs. Arthur Ekstrom welcomed attendees and Miss Lulu Hendrickson from Osceola gave the response. Reports covered secretary notes, county and local presidents, and county director finances with a memorial service led by Mrs Merrick of Osceola. State VP Mrs Lawrence Ring of Wakefield spoke.

Father and Son Banquet Set by Hordville PTA

The annual Father and Son Banquet will be held in the High School Auditorium on Tuesday October 25 at 8 p.m. Gerald S Franklin principal of Central City High School will be the main speaker. The program includes short talks musical numbers and a motion picture for the younger boys.

Donald Upton Stationed on Okinawa

Sergeant Donald R. Upton son of Mr and Mrs Ralph Upton of Polk arrived in Okinawa in August for overseas duty with the 8104th Service Detachment a unit of the Army of Occupation in the Ryukyus Command He is a Polk High School graduate veteran of Foreign War and re enlisted in 1947 at Grand Island He previously served in Europe and was stationed in Chicago with the Safety Division His wife Maxine and children Larry Joan Donna and Ronnie live at 516 D Hastings

Teachers Entertained at Polk Methodist Church Reception

About 100 teachers attended a WSCS sponsored reception at the Polk Methodist Church on Thursday evening. The program featured stunts and games chosen by a WSCS committee, followed by pie and coffee served by the lunch committee with each family contributing one fruit pie.

Mrs Roy Ehn and Mrs Milton Anderson hosted a housewarming for Mr and Mrs Reuben Ehn on Wednesday October 12. Sunday callers visit Wallace Sanders home in Osceola

Mr and Mrs Walter Nelson and Marvin were Sunday afternoon visitors in the Wallace Sanders home in Osceola. Osceola supplied the demonstrator and the freezer lock ers and refrigerator. Thanks go to McMeekins at Shelby who also demonstrated their new portable electric dishwasher. The ladies returned home feeling the day had been well spent.

Eaton joins Kearney Hastings game trip and pancake contest

Rev E Earle Eaton rode to Kearney for the Kearney Hastings game. Miss Hope Gwendolyn Eaton and Miss Norma Jean Moors visited Miss Velda Jean Kennicutt in Eddyville. Eaton attended Cedar Rapids Pancake Festival where he took part in the pancake eating contest as a runner up and did not win the top prize.
