Local Womans Club Hosts County Convention at Polk

The Polk Woman's Club hosted the County Convention of Federated Woman's Clubs at Polk Methodist Church on October 4 with about 75 registrations. New officers were elected including Mrs Severt Peterson Stromsburg President and Mrs Earl Stevens Polk Vice President. A noon luncheon for around 40 preceded a pageant The Cradle of Liberty by the Stromsburg Civic Improvement Club.

Swanson Carlson Wedding in Stromsburg Bride Weds Gordon Carlson

Elaine Swanson daughter of Mr and Mrs Albert Swanson became the bride of Gordon A Carlson son of Alfred Carlson on October 2 1949 at a candle light ceremony in the Stromsburg Methodist Church Rev G A Randall officiated before about 100 guests. The ceremony featured gladioli and chrysanthemums and a cream rose bouquet for the bride. The couple will reside on a Polk area farm after a short wedding trip.

Legion Auxiliary Met at Legion Hall October 10

The American Legion Auxiliary met at the Legion Hall on October 10 with flag salute and prayers. Officers were installed by Mrs. Emma Horstman and Ella Dahlin: President Mrs. Oscar Jones Vice President Mrs. Wallace Sandell Secretary Mrs. Ivan Cramer Treasurer Mrs. Everett Green Chaplain Mrs Linnea Shafer. A party planned for October 25, donations to Veterans Hospital, and an order for 1 000 popcorn pies were noted. The program featured poems and music. 36 members attended and enjoyed lunch served by four hostesses.

Arborville church activities report weekly gatherings

The Womans Missionary Society of Arborville Congregational met at Mrs Floyd C Merchant's home on Thursday. The Arborville Church Fellowship Meeting occurred at Dr and Mrs Clarence Reckner's home on Wednesday evening. Rev E Earle Eaton conducted a praise service at Klinger Rest Home in Aurora with Kenneth Bedient accompanying.

Body of Man Found Last Week Buried Saturday

The body found at the edge of Osceola last week was laid to rest in Osceola cemetery last Saturday. No identification has been made, and despite leads and state police visits no identity or family details have been established. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon with Rev. Bollinger officiating. Kepners handled the service.

WSCS Meeting Highlights At Polk Methodist

The Polk Methodist WSCS met last Thursday with about 30 members and guests. Mrs. Richard Widga served as receiving hostess. Leaders Mesdames Lloyd Kroger Arnold Isaacson and Pearl Jack presented a lesson on schools supported by the WSCS. Polk Group Hosts Young Adult Rally at Polk Church

The Young Adult Group of Polk Methodist Church hosted a sub district rally Sunday night drawing about 100 from Osceola Central City Fairview Aurora Clarks Polk and Sutton visitors. A 630 p m dish dinner followed by a program led by Fairview Central City and Rev Max Christopher emphasized learning social fellowship and devotional material with district president R O Peterson presiding.

Polk High School News Highlights Local Seals Drive and Events

The County Superintendent returns Polk's Christmas Seal Drive share of 29.07 dollars toward a forthcoming X-ray mobile unit, with 21.83 dollars from earlier drives also allocated for chest X-rays. Polk teachers receive a WSCS sponsored reception, and Haberman Studios will photograph the senior class. The MHarvest of Harmony march at Grand Island features Polk participation with band performances and a parade ending at Lie Derkranz Auditorium.

Mr and Mrs Ed Benson celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday October 2 with friends bringing a lunch. CCC Announces Crib Requirements for 1949 Corn Program

The Commodity Credit Corporation outlines crib requirements for the 1949 corn loan program. Temporary cribs require a floor raised for ventilation and a semi permanent room above the corn for airflow. Permanent cribs with driveway storage need double walls for ventilation. If driveways lack flooring, temporary floors must be elevated. The 1949 loan rate is expected about forty cents below last year.

Polk Band to Attend Harvest of Harmony Grand Island

Twenty high school bands from four divisions will perform at Grand Island's Harvest of Harmony festival on Saturday October 15. The morning parade will feature 29 rural hall county floats with a massed-band concert in Memorial Stadium at 1 30 p m. The event offers free admission and awards ratings from excellent to average. Also Shelby Wesleyan Methodist Church to lay corner stone Sunday October 16 at 3 p m with Dr Frank E Fouts and local officers attending.
