Dedication of New Polk Church Choir Robes

New wine colored choir robes for Polk Methodist Church were dedicated during the Sunday service. Jeanelle Kroger and Car lyn Strand led responsive readings, Revalker spoke on hymn inspiration, Sheralee Hill read the 126th Psalm, and a hymn of praise followed. The robes are greatly appreciated by both choir and congregation.

Sundberg Bauer Engagement Revealed at Informal Party

Mr and Mrs Oscar Sundberg announce the engagement of their daughter Donna Lee to Gene W Bauer son of Mr and Mrs L J Bauer of Sutton The reveal occurred at an informal Saturday coffee party with place ribbons and mirror centerpiece snapshots The couple has not set a wedding date Attending guests included Mesdames Henry Sandell Clarence Bodine Lloyd Stromberg and Merle Stromberg Mrs Albert Sundberg and Mrs Henry Horstman could not attend.

Former Polkite Leave for Ireland

Richard E. Myers, 38, of Denver and another Denver resident departing for Ireland to forecast trans Atlantic weather at Shannon airport. They will work for two to three years with Eire paying salaries while remaining U.S. bureau meteorologists. Their families sold Denver homes and will send children to private schools. Myers is a University of Nebraska graduate who moved from Washington to Denver five years ago. Also notes a Denver dinner honoring grandson Larry Widga and visits in Stromsburg.

Funeral Services Held for Henry Ziegelbein

Burial services for 89 year old Henry Ziegelbein who died in Lincoln were held last Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran cemetery with Rev. Hopman of York officiating. Ziegelbein lived on a Polk County farm before moving to York. Survived by three sons Wm Ziegelbein of Polk Edgar Ziegelbein of Lincoln Arthur Ziegelbein of Illinois and two daughters Mrs Neil Payne of Chicago and Mrs Sophia Wonderly of Elgin Illinois. Services were conducted in York.

Lemke Family Relocates to Henderson

Rev and Mrs Lemke and their family accepted a call Saturday for a position at Bethel Children's Home in Henderson. They departed Polk Monday. His duties include office work while Mrs Lemke will teach piano to the children.

Legion Auxiliary Hosts Masquerade Party at Legion Hall

About 75 legion and auxiliary members attended a masquerade party at the Legion Hall Tuesday evening. The event featured banco and a kangaroo court with prizes for the best dressed couple. Ladies served lunch of sandwiches pumpkin pie with whipped cream pickles and coffee.

Polk High Cubs Fall 32 to 0 at Guide Rock

Polk High Cubs were beaten 32 to 0 on Guide Rock’s field. The team was weakened by key injuries and limited depth, while Guide Rock exploited Polk’s weak pass defense with effective aerial plays. Polk’s next game is November 4 against Silver Creek, their final Goldenrod Conference clash of the season.

Free Chest X Ray Clinic To Be Held Here Soon

A meeting at the courthouse on October 19 arranged for a free chest X ray unit to visit in late November. Mr. Cappen of the State Health Department attended and a county committee plus town sponsors were formed to support the effort. The X ray services will be free.

4-H County Premium Checks Ready

Premium checks for 4-H members are ready at the Extension Office. Checks must be signed for by the leader or the individual member. Leaders should note that those not finishing their project are not eligible for fair premiums.

Polk High Hosts Week Of Class Parties In New Gym

Polk High School held two class parties this week with a senior party Monday night and a freshman party Tuesday night in the new gym. Don Lonie of Detroit spoke Monday afternoon and will headline Youth Convention talks in Henderson. Junior class rings from Herff Jones of Indianapolis arrived, featuring a gold P on black enamel and owner initials on the sides. No school activities are planned Thursday and Friday due to a teachers convention.

Methodist Church Observes Week of Prayer and Self Denial

The Methodist Church sets a Friday service at 2 30 p m October 28 led by Mrs Nels Pearson with Polk and Swede Plain women. Talks cover institutions supported by the Self Denial offering for the coming year and music is by Helen Isaacson on organ with Lloyd Kroger and Russell Fjell in charge. The hymn Advance O Church Of God will be sung as part of the Advance program.

The Kings Kouples held a farewell party for their teacher Rev. Paul Lemke and his family at the Baptist Church on Thursday evening. A gift was presented during the program. The group enjoyed games and a lunch after.

Hill Family Reunion Hosts Dinner in York

Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Hill of Long Beach California hosted their Hill relatives at Hobbs Cafe in York for a Sunday dinner. 4 H Calf Club Organized in Polk County

Polk County agents Throckmorton hosted a meeting at the Sandells home on Thursday October 13 to form a new 4 H Calf Club. Clarence Petzke and Mr. Sandell will lead the club and others interested are asked to contact them soon.

Mrs. Irvin Anderson and Mrs. Lloyd Hahn completed a 12 day bus journey to Washington DC and New York City with stops in Chicago Philadelphia Cleveland and Omaha They appeared on multiple TV and radio programs including NBC Meet the Missus KOJL and KFAB They visited landmarks met politicians and actors and were gifted by NBC for a test TV performance.
