Last Friday Ed Saylor Gene Fowler and Frank Stettner pried out rotted wood replaced a window sill at the Corner Cafe. A black cat crossing under a ladder caused a scare as the glass cracked into two pieces during the work. Columbus and banks are noted as well as local reflections on current events.
Mr and Mrs Adolph Morris of Central City announce the engagement of their daughter Louise Ann Morris to Marion James Mills of Aurora. Louise is a 1966 Polk High School graduate and works in Central City. Mills is an Aurora High School graduate and works in Aurora. A November wedding is planned.
The Opportunity Center at Columbus launches a fund drive Monday October 23 led by the Happy Hour Club in the Polk community. Contributions go to the school with envelopes distributed town and rural areas. Return envelopes promptly by November 6 to ensure delivery.

Coach Gary Warden's Polk Cubs powered to a 27-7 victory over the Henderson Huskies last Friday night. The Cubs surged ahead with two first-quarter touchdowns and held Henderson to a single first-half drive, while a scoring pass and stout defense kept Polk in command through the game.
Archie Cleo Stevens born September 2 1903 on the Polk Nebraska farm died October 10 1967 in Arriba Colorado at age 64. Survived by his mother five sisters five brothers and many relatives. Funeral services were held in Polk with burial at Polk Cemetery and he was a member of Legion Post No 160.
