Hospital awards national accreditation for Annie Jeffrey Memorial

C Marvin Fredrickson announced that the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals granted one year national accreditation to Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Hospital in Osceola. Fredrickson, chair of the hospital board, said staff efforts met high standards. Announcement appears on Page 4 of Polk Progress.

Polk Cubs and Osceola Bulldogs Battle to 6-6 Tie

Polk and Osceola fought to a 6-6 draw in a Goldenrod conference game. Dob Neuhaus set up Polk’s TD with an interception return to the 3 yard line, while Osceola used ground gains from Cerny Kropatsch and Potter to threaten but were thwarted by Polk’s defense and late interceptions.

Voter Registration Notice in Polk Progress

A county voter registration notice appears in this week’s Polk Progress. Registration will be in the Hotel Lobby on November 27 28 29 and 30 with deputy registrars to assist. County Clerk Dale Frizzell urges voters to clip and fill the form in advance and bring it to the registration. Sample forms will appear in next week’s paper and in the hotel lobby.

Violet Sundberg To Head Garden Club

Edna Neeman hosted the Garden Club meeting on Tuesday October 17 with fourteen members present. President Irene Widga presided as officers were elected for the coming year including Violet Sundberg as president and Sophia Klingsporn as vice president. Marjorie Lindholm serves as secretary-treasurer. Marie Henderson led the lesson on fall planting and perennials care. A lunch followed and members visited Edna Neeman and Mildred Baker’s gardens.

Death of former Polk resident Willard Johnson reported

The Progress learned Monday night of the death of Willard Johnson a former Polk resident. He died Friday at his home in Town. The mile crop is being harvested and the elevators report having received 150000 bushels by Tuesday night. Dean Myers at the Coop elevator reports the grain still needs drying. Vern Jones at Polk Grain states most of the grain he is taking in is dry enough for binning.
