County deputies audit 1942 to 1944 returns as farmers and businesspeople must keep records and canceled checks for at least three years. Officials plan to audit everyone in the county, urging retention of documents despite it not being March 15.
Mr and Mrs Lawrence Reetz of York and Mr and Mrs Karl Detloff hosted guests in the Baack home Wednesday evening. Many families visited hospitals, churches, Wayne and Omaha events, and Sunday and weekday gatherings across Osceola, Wahoo, Atlanta, Mead, Grand Island, and Portland.
The Stromsburg Hospital announces new visiting restrictions to protect mothers and babies. Visiting hours are eliminated in fore noon with limited windows in the afternoon and evening. Only the mother’s family and the baby’s grandparents may visit during the first three days, and no child under sixteen may visit unless it is the mother’s own child.

The Polk county Farm Bureau will host its first annual meeting at Odd Fellows Hall in Osceola on Tuesday October 23 at p.m. Families should bring sandwiches or cake while coffee is provided. Committee chairs include Mrs Dewey Lockard for Constitution and By laws C R Carlson for Resolutions and Mrs Petrus Nelson for Lunch. Howard Peterson State Farm Bureau Secretary will explain the hybrid corn production cooperative program and present colored moving pictures.
Three Shelby youths escaped serious harm when blasting powder exploded behind Abbott Hardware. Bud Abbott owner and Allan Brown and Jack Smith were present. sparks from a grinder ignited a powder barrel, tearing out the storefront. Abbott suffered severe facial and leg burns and is treated at St Francis Hospital. Brown and Smith sustained lighter burns with minimal stock damage.
Miss Lintea Ekdahl daughter of Mrs Lillie Johnson of Lincoln wed Calvin Lockwood son of Mr and Mrs MG Lockwood Cairo Michigan in Evangelical Free Church of Detroit. Rev Milford Olson officiated with Alice Bodine and Gilbert Glad as singers. Guests gathered for a two course lunch and wedding cake reception at the bride's mother home. The bride, a Polk High School graduate, and groom, a two year overseas veteran with purple heart and Presidential Citation, plan to live in Cairo where he will work for Ford Motors.
Wurtz and Son Maytag dealers in Polk report from President Ford Maytag the company will add an automatic washer and dryer both gas and electric a gas range and an electric frozen food rocket phones to the Maytag line. No dates yet for public availability though the gas range and frozen locker are hoped for early next year. Postwar washer samples have been released to over 7,000 U S dealers. local display model arrival is anticipated soon.
Mrs Frank Gruber returned to Omaha after a week with her sister Mrs Glenn Green. Mr and Mrs C A Carlson enjoyed dinner at Mrs Mabel Benjamin's. Mr and Mrs Willard Adelson shared Sunday dinner at the Adelson home.
Mrs Harry Kreis hosts a large Sunday dinner with guests from Missouri California and Texas. L G Kreis home hosts many visitors including Mr and Mrs Leslie Johnson from Hayward and families from Kenwick and Vandergrift. A sequence of visits continues with Amelia Bayer from Lubbock and Lt Walter French group from Clovis as well as Stromsburg residents hosting relatives.
Polk High School band directed by S A Ramp performed between halves at the Osceola football game last Friday. Spectators in the county seat praised the group and the football team.
Harold Hise of Omaha visits the L E Treadway home while Pvt and Mrs Theo W Swanson and Pvt LeMoyne Swanson enjoy furloughs from Texas. Central City guests include Mr and Mrs Orville Sawyers and families. Bob Mills returns from California on furlough with extension to November. L E Bealer visits Dr C R Peterson. Peterson guests attend a Reynolds visit. Lawrence Bowe purchases their south Osceola house from Rudy Urban.
A collision near Shelby caused an oil transport to overturn into Bernt's Cafe and service station, igniting after 4000 gallons of gasoline flooded the building. Firefighters from Osenola and Gresham battled the blaze. the site was described as Shelby’s most spectacular fire. Driver of the transport escaped. Moulden sustained a head injury. Loss estimated up to 35000 dollars with insurance only partially covering. A stop sign violation led to a $10 fine and costs for Vieulden.
Polk residents are reminded the United War Fund Drive ends this week. Contributions can be given by calling Mrs Marvin Fred rickson or dropping a donation at Citizens State Bank. Do not let us fall short of our quota.
Polk School reports the new Standard SpiritDuplicator arrived after a year on order. The machine will improve production of bulletins tests and seat-work and is appreciated by teachers and pupils. Students will receive their report cards this week. Films were shown Thursday.
Polk High Cubs beat Osceola 19 to 0 with Sealey scoring two touchdowns and Adelson adding one. Polk heads to Clark Friday night for an 8 PM game under the lights, with a predicted Polk victory.
Mrs Irvin Anderson, longtime Sunday School teacher at the local Methodist Church, has no pupils to promote this year. She has joined the Young Married People's Class and will attend as a listener for a change.

A two year old named Dwight led his mother to the yard to reveal that twin brother Dwain had fallen into a tank. Dwain was rushed to Stromsburg hospital and is recovering satisfactorily.
Miss Linnea Ekdahl was guest of honor at a shower hosted by Mrs. W. C. Bodine and daughter at their home last Friday. Jeannie Ekdahl and Barbara Carlson pulled a decorated wagon of gifts to the honoree. Two young girls dressed as a bride and bridesmaid helped celebrate as thirty guests enjoyed refreshments.

The Polk Ministerial Association will conduct a census of Polk Arborville Pleasant Home townships and nearby areas to measure church attendance and affiliation. The survey seeks residents names ages of children church membership local preferences and Sunday School attendance. It emphasizes a friendly approach and appreciates response.
