The Polk County Teacher's Association held its annual meeting in the Polk High School Auditorium on Tuesday evening. Osceola attorney W. W. Norton attended and spoke to the group. Ladies from the Polk Methodist Church organized the banquet dinner.
Central City High School reserves defeated Polk 19 to 0 as Sealey scored twice and Volz added a TD. Polk travels to Osceola tomorrow for a conference game with expectations of a win.
Burglars entered The Home Of Co. and Hastert's Hardware on Sunday evening. About $20 was taken from Hastert's Hardware while the filling station left untouched. Sheriff deputy Peterson leads the investigation into the break-ins.

Osceola residents host and visit relatives during a weekend stretch. Mr and Mrs Jack Logan of Los Angeles visited Mr and Mrs Ira Irland on the route to Nebraska. Harold Hewitt, recently back from the Canal Zone, heads to Blair via Omaha while with the Navy Docks. Lloyd Powell of San Diego visits Osceola with two weeks’ vacation, staying with Elsie Bond in Gresham. Mary Manion of Kearney spent time with Lil Hwan McBeth while handling local business as A W Chantry nears completion on state street, on the site of the former Roy Cox house, with the Presbyterian Church removal completed.
Mrs Clyde Green begins work as a news reporter at The Progress Office on Monday replacing Miss Betty Wilson who resigned. She asks residents to report news when she calls Mondays or Tuesdays at their homes.
Miss Dorothy Fredrickson R N visited her mother Mrs Amelia Fredrickson then left for Chicago. Junior piano pupils of Miss Lillie Chindgren recital at Swede Home Church Sunday at 7 30 pm. Mr and Mrs John Anstrom of Los Angeles stayed with Petrus Nelson. Miss Marian Johnson of Long Beach CA visiting family. Miss Floriene Larson of Omaha and Mr and Mrs Rolland Ekstrom and Karlene Osceola spent Sunday with Wm Larson family. Mr and Mrs Arvid Branting and daughter North Platte attended 60th wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Frank Carlson at York. Lorraine Larson of Omaha visited her parents Clarence and Miss Farrer preached at Swede Home. Mary Alice and Rosalie Ekstrom dinner with Rev and Mrs Franze. Rally at St Edwards in afternoon. Ansel Fredrickson Dale and Mary visited Morris Fredrickson's family at Grand Island. My and Mrs Fred Youngdahl with family spent Sunday near Osceola. Farm Bureau Meeting planned Friday at High Prairie School. Myron Johnson Lyndon and Nancy of Stromsboro with Dorothy Fredrickson RON of Chicago. Wallace Fredrickson and Russell Fredrickson hosted Monday supper with Gordon Fredrickson.
Rev Paul Lemke of First Baptist Church and Rev Milford Olson of Evangelical Free Church attended a ministers meeting at the Yancey Hotel in Grand Island. Dr J Elwyn Wright spoke as NAEs executive secretary. A local Grand Island Chapter was formed with Lemke elected treasurer and committee member. Also notes on visits by Mr and Mrs Donald Hanquist and Mr and Mrs Sterling Nelson plus a Grand Island hospital visit.
Funeral services were held for Gustaf Adolph Ehn at Evangelical Free Church Polk and at the Joe Ehn home with interment in Polk Cemetery. Born in Ramnas Bruk Sweden June 7 1885 he died October 3 1945 at Green City Missouri aged 60 years 3 months 26 days. He immigrated with his parents at 11 months and lived on farms near Swede Home and Polk. He married Anna Matilda Swanson March 24 1915 and had three children. He is survived by his wife two daughters Bernice Anna and Myrtle Ruth one son Marvin Virgil eight siblings and many relatives.
The Seventh District American Legion and Legion Auxiliary meet in Howells on Tuesday October 16 with topics on veteran aid and peacetime problems. State officials attend including Department Commander A C Smith and Adjutant R C Patterson. a meal at 7 Aux luncheon noon banquet 6 30 and public ballroom dance conclude the day.

The Arborville Home Makers Club held its first meeting with demonstrations on sugarless candies.
Polk County Soil Conservation District and Extension Service host a demonstration on preparation and seeding of waterways for gully control and erosion on August Tenn farm southeast of Osceola. Program begins 1:30 pm Thursday the 11th and lasts about two hours with emphasis on practical water disposal solutions for the public.
Community members share visits with relatives in Omaha Lincoln and Lincoln area. Families from Atlanta Chicago Nashville and Tennessee appear in local guest lists. Local hosts include the Lyle Cockle Grant Johnson W D Ely Aurora and Stromsburg households with multiple Sunday dinners and church socials.
The Polk Nebraska chamber of commerce maintains a "whoopee fund" of over 200 dollars but no V J day celebrations are planned yet as news from Washington reports Japan's surrender came abruptly and preparations in Polk are未-made.
The Polk Progress expanded from six to seven columns with the October 4 issue. New features include a page comic section and late news pictures, and the paper now contains over a full page more of rental material with no rise in subscriptions.
Superintendent Willert attended a Iowa Nebraska Audio Visual Education Institute in Omaha with a $60 000 Army Air Corps exhibit. Officials want Polk to reuse obsolete equipment for a similar display. Six week tests will be given this week. Military discharge is based on the point system. farm service alone does not justify early release. Farmers should be informed to avoid wasted effort on discharge requests.
County extension urges boy and girl enrollment to maximize 4-H benefits. Wanting leaders explains that early start helps. A Polk County 10 year old, Robert Peterson, made news at Ak-Sar-Ben for his Hereford calf, winning a red ribbon in the 870 to 940 pound class. Come on boys.
Mrs D Beedles of Racine Wisconsin and her daughter visited Stromsburg last weekend with Mr and Mrs Chris Thesing. Cpl Charles S Beedles, son of Mrs Beedles, joined them in Lincoln for discharge processing before returning home. The report include military travel by Guy W Green Jr and attendance at a 50th wedding anniversary in York. Various locals entertained and hosted visits from relatives and friends across the region.
