James Felton 79 Dies in Omaha

Funeral services were held Monday October 13 for James Felton of Polk after a several months illness. He operated the Felton Pharmacy in Polk in the 1920s and was a druggist in Omaha Utica and Falls City. Survivors include his wife Mae a son James in New York City and two daughters Mrs Delon Burdie of Omaha and Mrs Alvin McNear of Atlanta.

Auxiliary Receives Excellent Citation at Legion Meeting

The American Legion Auxiliary met October 13 at the Legion Hall with Elaine Miller presiding. Wilda Holmes presented the Legislative Bulletin and read a poem. The unit earned a past year excellent citation and a National Legislation citation and will host next year’s District convention.

Louise Doremus obituary from Polk Nebraska church services

Louise Helenne Blender Doremus born January 21 1889 near Benedict Nebraska died October 10 1969 at the Polk farm home aged 80 years 8 months 19 days. She lived near Stromsburg then Polk, raised seven children, active Methodist Sister and WCTS treasurer, charter member of Friendly Families Club. Services were held October 13 at United Methodist Church Polk with Rev Deryl Reed officiating. Interment in Stromsburg Cemetery.

Scond Open House At Polk Schools Attracts Parents

The Polk Grade School held its second annual open house on Tuesday October 7 in the lunch room. Principal John Hegwood outlined a modified module schedule allowing more study time with instructors and subject specific time. Superintendent Walter Nielsen announced new instructors and curriculum additions including reading speech therapy psychologists nurses and other Service Unit 7 facilities. A course in new math for parents was planned to be taught by Mr Swanson. Patrons toured both buildings before the event continued on Page 4.
